Dungeons and DrawBombs - Episode 1 - The Hermit's Hovel

Share Collapse

Dungeons and DrawBombs Episode 1 is finally here! Our intrepid adventurers set off in a quest against the odds and Internet service providers! Schmizard the Wizard and Branthor the Great begin their newest adventure that is sure to involve a series of interesting and unique characters as they try to eke out a living in Ridiculous Medival World™

Episode 1 took a while to come out because of various other projects that got in the way and because I really don't enjoy editing footage of myself, but here we are. It may be a couple weeks but episodes 2 and 3 are on their way. In the meantime, I'm still having frequent chats with Internet folks so our connection can finally not be terrible, and when that happens we'll record more episodes so that I have even more footage of myself to cringe and edit through.

Awesome Stuff! Lots of Wisdom!

It's really good, and shows potential for future episodes, however the lip syncing looks awful, but it's just my only complaint, however since it's the first episode, I'm positive overtime it will be addressed and worked on, despite how tedious it may sound, it's just one of the attention to details that I personally like, and hey it's just me that thinks so. If I ever come across future episodes, I'll be sure to check them up, keep up the good work!

Thanks for checking the video out! I appreciate your thoughts on this.

As for the lip-sync...
The lip-sync is like that because this was animated live and then edited down. Essentially we're all in a Discord call and the characters are assets in OBS. Each person in the call is connected to a character "puppet", and the puppet changes between Idle and Active states if it recognizes that specific person is talking. The "Active" state only holds one animation, so it's just a generic lip-flapping animation.

So this video essentially animated itself as we were improvising the story and drawing the backgrounds (which you can see happening as the video continues). We recorded this and the upcoming 2 episodes in a single 3-hour session, and the most time-consuming part (aside from creating the actual puppets) was editing the video down to something much more watchable. We actually have the entire unedited session up on Youtube.

So, unfortunately, the lip-syncing isn't really going to improve in any real way aside from perhaps one of us getting a better recording setup so that the microphone picks up less background noise. Aside from that, the bad lip-syncing is as of right now an unavoidable shortcoming of the technique we used to get this whole project together in the first place.
