ToeJam and Earl - Third Leg

Share Collapse

ToeJam and Earl, the funkiest alien duo ever, are prepping for their adventure. Well, until they have a disagreement about how many legs ToeJam has. Yeah, apparently there's confusion between them. What's ToeJam HIDING?! And do we really want to know?

Had this idea about a week ago and thought it was a funny enough idea to pursue. Plus with it being ToeJam and Earl, I could have some fun with the background and not have to do too crazy of animation with their characters. Like, it's based primarily on how they look in the intro of the first ToeJam and Earl game, which was just them standing around a random 90s background rambling about the game's plot. Took a little longer than I wanted (roughly 4 days) because I was trying new animation features for ToeJam's limbs. They use mesh deforms, which Adobe Animate can apparently do. Just not very well. Oh well, now I know how to do them at least.

Woah woah, more stuff from childhood I never put any thought to. I love how you also kept it true to the art style from the 80s the games had.

Bobert-Rob responds:

Yeah, it was a lot of fun doing the backgrounds especially. Some of the animation is awkward, but I was experimenting with something I didn't know Flash was capable of now. I've been learning new tricks in the program. It's been interesting. Thanks for checking all my newer stuff out, man!

I love that build up to the three legs argument.

Bobert-Rob responds:

Thank you! I enjoyed it myself, though I admit it's a little basic. But the payoff makes it well worth it, in my humble opinion. Thanks for watching!

If you like it, be sure to check out some of the stuff I've been posting to Youtube. Also doing some weird stuff on Twitch. Whatever works best for you though, I'm not leaving NG anytime soon.

Not one of your best, but still good. My favorite part was the animation. I mean, it was really fell set up here with good movements. I knew where that leg joke was going. I have in fact heard of ToeJam and Earl. They had platformers with everyone and everything in the 90s.

This was definitely funky. It was quite authentic to the original game. Well, from what I know of it. The animation, while fluid, did look a bit dated. I'm still happy to have seen it.

Bobert-Rob responds:

Well thanks! I mostly enjoyed the script because of the censorship line, to be honest. But the flow of the whole thing was good enough that i figured it'd be fun for a quick animation. Not cream of the crop by any means, but still fun.

Also, not sure what you mean by 'dated' in regards to the animation style. I'm trying new things all the time, not sure how it can look dated. I mean, I don't do that uber anime inspired everything-has-to-be-dynamic-camera-angles-and-action-movie-visual-porn that seems to be the trend, but I see that as a good thing. That crap gets old quick. Also I'm just one animator?

You nailed this really well! Man it must be painful for Toe Jam walking around everywhere with his third leg. man re-watching this to see toejam sort of thrusting during the rap makes it more funny! this is RADICAL!

Bobert-Rob responds:

Haha, yeah, censorship is a bitch, huh? All these years and we had no idea. Thanks for watching. If you like this and want more stuff from me, you should subscribe on youtube also. I post all kinds of stuff on there, including some ridiculous Twitch clips of mine. I'm all over the place, really. Whatever works for you.

Cool Dude!
