I agree with you that the whole Minion meme thing is super forced by 45 year old moms who have nothing going on in their lives; but, the comedy just didn't resonate with me. Nothing against you dude, just not really my cup of tea. But for real, fuck those minion memes. They are absolute trash.

The animation style I would call cute, And I have never watched the movies, The trailers turned me off of them the yellow things are like nails on a chalk board to me and when someone says minion the only things that come to my mind is The Overlord video game and the henchmen of villains from some old Saturday morning cartoons.
They're cute for sure, but that's about all they are lmao. apart from that the're just a pain, but honestly the movie (I've only seen number one) wasn't that good at all in my opinion. They didn't take away from anything bc the movies plot was pretty thin ether way
