This is an animation I started working on in the middle of August in 2016. It's also my first animation I have worked on since I quit doing flash in 2008. I've had this, idea of a film, for many years now, and I even recall trying to make a flash animation of this idea many years ago - but scrapped the idea since I stopped having the patience to work on anything flash-related.

This project took, as I mentioned, over a year to finish - probably because I had lot's of other stuff going on in my life and also being a complete beginner (in a sense) in flash. I also drew heavy inspiration of the works of fellow "Newgrounder" - Jesse Simpson AKA Noiserover. I wanted to capture a similar feeling of eerie-ness and atmosphere that I got from said authors work. I want to thank my girlfriend for making the music and terrific voice acting for this film. I also want to thank the people at Freesound.org for submitting the sound effects for the open license/ no copyright status.

I also ended up finishing this project in time for Halloween 2017 and figured I might aswell submit this as an entry for the competition on this site!

So please, do yourself a favor, turn off the lights, grab a cup of tea, pull up the volume.. and enjoy my animation!

Wow! This is incredible, man! It played me on multiple levels! The isolation, the creepy night-vibe, the claustrophobia! It really got to me when he was trying not to panic, I could feel myself getting nervous! Loved the rotoscope-style animation and colors too. It all came together to make a really cool and creepy story! Love it!

Thank you so much! I enjoy coming back to this animation and see if there is anyone with any sort of input/critique etc. So it's always fun to see someone who enjoyed my work!

I really tried to capture the "feel" of the night; with its isolation and eerie, yet cozy, atmosphere :)

I've been reading a really intense horror book, and had I checked the tags I probably would have avoided this video... considering the shivers and heart pounding though, I'm glad I didn't pass it up. Positively fantastic atmosphere and art style, and the monsters were humanoid yet incredibly uncanny and terrifying...

Gnydsmelt responds:

Thanks for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Up until the end I really liked how the atmosphere kept building, and getting scarier and scarier... but when the monsters appear part of that atmosphere dies down. When the unknown becomes visual... it's just not unknown. I hoped it would end with something not all too revealing and keep that vibe, but though it's a nice twist after that I think the monsters ruined it a bit, overall though very well-made! Sound is top quality too.

Thanks!

The long production time was 100% worth it. Really atmospheric, beautiful rotoscoping style, and it was genuinely creepy too. Hope to see more like this from you!

Gnydsmelt responds:

Thank you so much Hrobkafon and congrats on that frontpage :) I really enjoyed your whole project aswell!

Nice animation. Flat backgrounds and rotoscoping done well. Also nice setup of mood and ambience. Keep it coming.

Thanks
