I know this is not the usual fare for Newgrounds, but it is animated, and technically falls under "everything," so I thought I'd set it here- someone may enjoy it.

For this animation, I experimented with three different methods of printmaking- monotype, drypoint, and linocut. Once the prints were complete, they were scanned, sized in Photoshop, and compiled in Flash. Digital retouching was otherwise left at an absolute minimum, typically only to bring up some of the contrast lost in the scanning process.

I have always been a fan of underground animation, with its DIY aesthetic, and I think that printmaking lends itself to capturing that quality. Plus, if you were ever looking for a way to make animation more time consuming and tedious, printmaking lends itself to that, too.

For this presentation, I have set each animation to temporarily loop before moving on to the next one.

Very, very cool.

I can't imagine how much of a pain the linocut was to make. If you don't mind me asking, how did you do it? In terms of onion skinning, i mean.

I really didn't onion skin it, I had a loose line art version that I made in flash, which I transferred to the block with pencil. Then I went over everything with sharpie and just eyeballed it. Same with cutting it, just eyeball and cut. If you look at animation long enough, you don't necessarily need it to be in motion to see if it works (if you don't care about being on model). I would say, though, that a tighter initial animation (the sketch) or producing each frame on a single block of lino would probably give better results- I did all of these on a single, large block, which leaves no room for correction.
