Nothing Gold Can Stay

After a lifetime of being trapped in different bowls, a goldfish finally finds freedom.

Or: 'Life is pointless, then you die from a stray baseball'.

Made in 2 days for the Sarcastic Animation Jam, with the prompts 'fishbowl' and 'broken window'. I thought up the idea on midday Saturday, animated until about 11pm, then got up the next day and blazed through until I was finished. If I had a little more time I'd work on some more cleanups, lighting effects, and bubble particles, but I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with considering the time constraints.

At least now I have practice speed sketching bowls of different shapes. I've never drawn so many fish bowls in my life. Well, except that one time.

EDIT: Woo, Daily 1st Feature! Thank you benevolent Newgrounds overlords!

EDIT2: Weekly 3rd Place! :D

EDIT3: Won the audience choice award and 1st place for the judges award in the Sarcastic Animation Jam. Needless to say, I'm stoked. Well done to everyone who entered the jam--all of your epic speed animating skills did not go unnoticed.

So the fish isn't really appreciated. Perhaps it shouldn't even be taken in the first place.

It goes through different bowls and homes.

Sometimes some things just get snuffed out, sometimes there's no value or appreciation, meaning or purpose.

I feel there's a deep message here. Or...I could be overthinking things?

Great animation though!

Poor fish.... Awesome video

The screen direction is pretty stellar. The story was simple and yet engaging. This sad drama of a fish who's life was made into a prison, made me sad effectively. I appreciate the effects as well. NOT over used and not distracting.

Positive critique : I would of had the fish have a smile in the beginning and at the end. That would been dramatic and given this character of the Gold fish an emotional Arch that is more bitter sweet because right now, the fish seems like a boring fish who just, through painful process, dies.

I say keep going and be mindful of arcs in characters, even depressing characters have em.

I enjoyed the film. People, watch this and feel the feels.

Great job really love what you created here in 2 days keep up the good work ^^.

Yep, I've changed my mind. I think this is now my favorite submission here. Uh, happy late Thanksgiving? It was just nice how you showed so much emotion in this. The music was awesome. You were perfectly able to show this fish's life.

I genuinely felt sorry for him. It's nice to see his life from this perspective. The length was great too. I can totally see why it won Daily Feature and Weekly 3rd Place. It's quite a haunting cartoon.
