***CHANGELOG***
- Complete revamp on the level design
- Changed character animation a bit
- Added some background decor to give atmosphere
- Added multiple control options
- Redesigned tile graphic
- Fixed directional collision detection for syringes
- Removed Q as a restart button - Sorry about that one!
- Cleaned up the coding

Next update will contain more levels, interactives, music and new character abilities!

This is our second draft of our first game.
Our graphic designer is very new to the field.
Uploading for feedback and help to improve upon this.
Will reupload soon with new level designs and more shimmer and polish to it.
Also used it to work out how to implement APIs into the preloader class.

Thanks in advance for your feedback :)

Enjoy!

When I saw Asylum in the title I thought this'd be a much darker game, but it was more of a functional escape than a moody one. I like the entertaining approach to the platfor4mer/puzzle genre, even if it could be a pretty serious scenario. Obstacles are refreshingly mundane, movement's smooth... things I'm missing is music, and maybe more progressive level design. Feels like it gets difficult pretty fast after the first two. Anyway, I like the idea, original; challenging! Nice work.

The controls are good. One issue : the q key is just next to the a and w keys ! I reset the game ca couple of times by mistake.
One hitbox problem : When you touch mid-air the side of a bloc you have the effect of touching its top (beds eject you without jumping on it and you sometimes die because of syringes in unfair conditions).
For the game design : an asylum is a very particular place. In your game we can see padded cells, a strait jacket, metal covered doors. The player is waiting for gameplay elements related to that. Else just make a regular guy in regular rooms and regular outfit.

Boring and repetitive, maybe some music could improve it.

I feel like this game could have been so much better. The concept was great, but sadly, nothing new is introduced after the first three levels and the level design begins to get very repetitive very fast (the bed after bed bounce and the wall of syringe fall parts were repeated many times). For other inclusions:
- You could have had levels where syringes were shot at you and you needed to either duck or jump over them.
- You could have also had doctors chasing after you (or simply just watching you from behind glass or from a distance and writing things down, as if they are analyzing you).
- You could have had other patients that would attack you, you could maybe interact with, or they could help you beat the level.
- As the game went on, you could have had the borders of the game begin to close in or become more blurry to represent insanity closing in.
- There's also no story to the game (although none is needed, there's no substance either). You could have had some very scary stuff in this, such as blood stains and scribbling of mad men on the walls, hallucinations, scary background noises like people screaming or laughing insanely.

All these things could have made the game awesome (I might have even considered this game awesome if it just had better and more challenging level designs). Instead, the game just feels empty and nearly void of adventure. however, there were some good things that I will comment on:
- Thank you for including instructions
- the silence in the background was a good choice though it may not have been the best choice.
- the sprite was really cool looking, both determined and perhaps a little bitter.

I still look forward to your next game release. Good luck.
