I was obsessed with Terry Cavanagh's game 'Super Hexagon' so I decided to make my own before he released it for PC on Steam!

Enjoy!

M toggles mute.

You can play with the mouse (or touch screen) if you want.

The game this was originally inspired by is linked below, although I recommend you use Flash Player instead of an emulator to play it:

Take a look at the incredible sequel to the original game, Super Hexagon!

I revisited the music in this a few years later and made a muuuch better rendition called "Hexagon and On". Check it out on Newgrounds, and anywhere you listen to your music!

Edit 4/8/17: I optimized the game a bit again, to fix some bugs! Thanks for playing!

Edit 12/23/20: I ported the game to HTML5! You can enjoy on mobile too :)

Extremely hard on mobile ;A; (my record is 30.08 seconds)
But the game itself is really good, I like it:D

Zanzlanz responds:

Omg I actually forgot this had touch controls, somehow!
It's definitely one of those skill games where it becomes more natural to play after a while.

Thanks a lot!

There are strategies for how to achieve 240 seconds???

Zanzlanz responds:

I'm not sure a skill game like this leaves much room for strategy per se, but -- whatever personal strategies help you get "in the zone" could help you have more stable reaction times.

Otherwise, it's just a combination of practice and a bit of luck haha!

240 seconds is a hard medal, so I'd recommend aiming for each medal at a time, and taking a break between sessions. Taking breaks had a significant impact on my skill improvement when I played Super Hexagon, and the skill now transfers to similar games inspired by hexagon, like this :)

Better than the original but lack the variety in patterns and the ability to start on a later stage as in super hexagon, but it is a game you have to pay for so I guess I cannot compare with it.

Nice coded as I did not find any bugs. I noticed that you made the edges so that they stop you but not so you lose, which was very kind of you. It makes it possible to get through the spiral in the wrong direction. The medal for surviving 300 seconds is actually just 240.

Zanzlanz responds:

Thanks for your thoughtful review JME!

Yes this definitely wasn't intended to be a replacement for Super Hexagon of course, I just was having fun making my own version before Super Hexagon released for desktop. I hope those who enjoy this eventually do feel inspired to buy Terry's full game :)

And great catch on the medal! I guess I tweaked the requirement when I ported the game to HTML5, and forgot to update the medal description. Fixed!

it kind of hurts my eyes but it is fun

Zanzlanz responds:

This game is totally a bit tense for the eyes haha. I'm glad you enjoyed though!

what you won't let me play fullscreen?

Zanzlanz responds:

Actually, I never noticed Newgrounds doesn't have a fullscreen button o_o
I have a fullscreen button on my website if you really wanted to try it there.

I should look into adding it from the game itself some day though
