Hi everyone! I got inspired to remake another classic after some suggestions on my previous game, DK Arcade. This was a fun project that took me roughly a month of hard work to pull off. It turned out much bigger than I anticipated since in the middle of production, I got the idea of creating a new game and changing a bunch of things to the original.

This game features 2 games within: Jetpac and Rocket!
Jetpac is the original version some may remember with many features and changes made by myself. Among the most notable changes, are Powerups and Bombs! Collect them as they fall to gain new powers and unlock secrets!

Rocket is a new game I implemented where you navigate your Rocket across space, collecting Items and avoiding the enemies for as long as you can! You get to unlock new rockets depending on how far you get on Jetpac. The collectable items are colored in Yellow, and the enemies are colored in Red. You must re-fuel your rocket with fuel packs along the way or you'll find yourself with an unresponsive rocket navigating through space!

I'm happy I managed to finish this pretty quickly and submit new things to NG, I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I enjoyed making it!

Not bad

I like the retro look and presentation of the game, as well as the chiptunes, but there is one major limiting factor in this game: the controls. For me, it's impossible to go up and left while firing the laser, but I'm able to go up and right... that means if the fuel spawns on the left of the screen, I have to either stop firing my laser and just hope the enemies pass me by, or I have to head left, stop and just hover vertically while shooting the laser when enemies spawn, then stop firing and continue moving left. Either way, it's horribly annoying and has caused me to die over and over again.

The music, while fitting for the game, gets extremely repetitive very quickly. Fortunately there is a mute button, but the goal should be to include music the player doesn't want to mute. Every level is the same; dodge or shoot enemies while collecting fuel. Much like the music, the levels get monotonous quite quickly. Adding in extras might reduce the repetitiveness of the levels: maybe an NPC or a small robot that hovers around the player that can help shoot enemies, maybe multi-screen levels that force the player to actually use the platforms to make his way up, maybe adding a fuel gauge to the jet pack so the player has to maximize efficiency. Of course, this last thing wouldn't work at all with the controls limited the way I mentioned above, but it's something to consider.

Not a bad game, a nice throwback, but the controls and monotony of the game cause me to dock you some points.

Hahaha I see you didn't read my comments...that's why I made it so you could fire with "A" as well....I noticed some keyboards stick with the controls I made it with. I guess you're right about the repetiveness, but I tried to go around it as I could.

Thanks for the detailed review :)

This is why I like Newgrounds

Arcade remakes. It feels like the old good times, but has some new features... including medals.

I remember this

I remember this game the first time I played it was in Donkey Kong 64, but wow it was a lot harder on the N64.

Great

Good old arcade fun. The fact that you have made it just like the old version but you have updated it in so many wonderful ways like adding a mini-game is brilliant.
