I made this game as I learned AS3.0. Took near 100 hours to make.
Complete the Game on Hard or Brutal difficulty to unlock in game achievements.
There are currently 5 achievements. 2 for Speed, 3 for Accuracy.

The very basic of this game was made with the help of a tutorial. This include rotation & colision detection. For those who wish to learn AS3.0 you really should take a look at this book.

Edit: Some display problem when you click the back to menu button. Will also be fixed soon.
Edit: As some requested, I added a speaker icon to mute/unmute all sound.

Fixed: No more display problem
Fixed: Rock can no longer spawn under the ship when not in the center area. You have a safe room of 110 pixel in every direction.

Excellent first game!

Awesome old school remake! I can definitely see the author style in this game " quote - Syrron Bhaub ". As first game, a lot could be added as an upgrade version, but! this is definitly a great game! Keep it up soldier!

Ideas for upgrade - Backgrounds, different style of decals for the space ships, bombs... maybe?

Good game

It's a nice remake of the old Asteroids.
Except at one point i got my ship to go so fast ( > 50000m/s) that it wasn't on the screen anymore, i don't know what happened to it! Haha

The-Real-Sabin responds:

if the ship traveled a number of pixel/frame > than the stage height, it's possible that the ship was always offscreen and the game probably crashed due to script executing itself over and over trying to find where to put the ship.

edit: I fix this bug. It was as I tought, you speed > 50000m/s meant you went around 600pixel/frame. If you were in a vertical direction you exceeded the stage height + the outside margin that loop from top to bottom.

Negative points :
-bullets don't come back the other side ( like the player and asteroids )
-impossible to hold the spacebar key ( probably because of the way you listen for keyboard inputs)
-lack of explosions!

Other than that for your real first game it's really good!

I made the third ship's bullet come across the stage one time only and it was already too powerful. Yes you can hold the spacebar but it must be the last key you pressed, like "You must be immobile to focus the energy to maximize weapon firerate" or something :P

Lack of explosion = lack of drawing skills :P

I mainly focus on code, as I was learning AS3.0


I haven't seen any of these that remains as faithful to the original game like yours does. I liked it.

Love it but...

I would really appreciate a mute button for the music, as well as a air brake or a way to slow down the ship.

Thanks for your review. I will see what I can do with the music. As for the brake, If you ever played the original Asteroid game you'll notice that there was no break. You'd want to stay still as long as possible, move only when no more option are available.
