Reverb is a simple omni-directional shooter with a twist: Time Control. You're able to draw blue and red boxes that will slow down or speed up whatever is inside them. And if you make a mistake, simply reverse time and try again! However, if you die too quickly after reversing time, it's game over.

Hope you guys like it!

Update (3/26/09)
*Fixed a bug where if you reversed to the point where a bomb disappeared, it would never come back, essentially allowing you to "reverse away" bombs. Special thanks to profcory for pointing that out to me!

Killa...

The time control in a decided area reminds me of the time grenades in TimeShift. Excellent game.

greystone227 responds:

Thanks!

Very nice concept!

Especially when you press spacebar and it goes reversed, that is fantastic!
Great simple game!
10/10
5/5

greystone227 responds:

Thanks! That's exactly what I was going for! Just a nice, short, creative game.

9/10 total
2/10 for the game
4/10 for the concept
3/10 for that noob savagegalka who spammed you with a 0!

The music was a bit repetative and adding more than one track in will make it seem less repetative. Also i would develop this idea thurther and make it into a better game, because it has the potential to reach the top 5, if you were to develop it a lot more and not just a basic game involving squares, that gets boring after a while!

greystone227 responds:

It's like you're tapping into my thoughts... I actually made this game about a year ago for a competition and just got around to optimizing it for the web and putting it up. Therefore, I coudn't add a lot of the ideas I had come up with over the year because I basically forgot how all the code went together. I actually have quite a few ideas for a Reverb 2 that I hope to make over the summer, and you can bet it will tap into the full potential of the time control mechanics!

As for the music, because it's a game that's meant to be played in short bursts, I really wanted to keep the file size to a minimum. I originally had two songs in there, but it came out to like 4 mb (I have to have two copies of each song - one forward and one reverse, so doubling the songs quadruples the file size, and the other song was quite a bit longer). And I just really felt that would take too long to load for the amount of time you would spend playing the game. Definitely a reasonable complaint though.

Good

It's good and entertaining, but it does get old after a while. I'd gone thru 27 powerups before I just let myself be killed by a bomb--I used Commanderloochy's strategy (though I didn't read his post before I played). Seriously, find a way to get around that red box strategy-- I used the blue box for about 5 minutes out of the hour I played. The best way to up the difficulty is probably nerf the time reverse when you die (reverse about 5 seconds?)

Gameplay aside, it was well thought out, smooth animation, controls, etc.

greystone227 responds:

Wow! You definitely demolished my high score! I think my old high score was somewhere around 100,000, but you must have had over 270,000! Ridiculous! And yeah, the red box is definitely a good idea. I put those speeding arrow enemies in there to help combat that strategy, but it looks like you beat it. Nice!

And thank you for the compliments! Just the fact that you played it that long is flattering, haha.

It's ok, I suppose

A couple of things. First of all, if a bomb appears, you can simply reverse time, make the bomb disappear, and it won't come back. Thus the bombs are rendered almost pointless.

Secondly, I'm not quite sure about the purpose of creating a "fast" zone. That seems like it would only make things more difficult.

Otherwise, neat idea.

greystone227 responds:

Wow. Thank you. You're completely right about the bomb thing. And you'd think after having all of my friends test it and me playing it nonstop that someone would have caught that: ) I'll try to fix it as quickly as I can.

Oh, and Commanderloochy discovered the main reason to use the fast box: to increase your own rate of fire. Big thanks for catching that bug though!
