Simulation of Axis 64

Share Collapse

Author Comments

This is an interactive harmonic table. It was designed to simulate the play mechanism of the Axis 64 from C-Thru Music.

I was put up to the challenge of making my friend a musical keyboard for his computer.

Vertically, to the top, tones increase in 5ths.
Diagonally, to the top left, tones increase in Minor 3rds.
Diagonally, to the top right, tones increase in Major 3rds.

Click to play notes from the keypad.
The keys that will be played upon clicking are protruded slightly from the board.

Enjoy!

Bug fixed: Buttons will no longer vibrate.
Edit: Updated; higher quality sounds.
Edit: Changed button appearance.
Edit: Decreased sound playback latency.
Edit: Color scheme now matches Newgrounds.
Edit: Keys click, added color variation to G# and D.
Edit: Improved hit-test accuracy.
Edit: Improved ease of playability.

nice

Great way to scare the hell out of the cat. lmao

nicely done!

Only one octave

This is a great model of the Axis harmonic keypad, but it's all just one octave. If you try to go up the scales, a higher C sounds just like the lower C and sounds repeat! It's more fun if you could program the correct octave transitions, low to high.

why do you need sop much space?

Great idea, executed well enough to get the point acress, but do you need all of that space? Why not mix and match different octaves?

This is impressive, the huge bug especially so :)

This is nice. I'm particularly impressed by the fact that you've manage to code the table upside down while keeping the lateral (thirds) relationships intact :)

The board should ascend in 5ths, and descend in 4ths, rather than the other way round. I am eager to play around with this when you've fixed this conceptual bug :)
