Good subject, bad voice

I find it awesome that you got all of "The Great Gatsby" into word, but it was a bit hard to hear.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Really funny.

F.Scott Fitzgerald would love this.

I will show this to my sons and grandsons, and they will in turn show it to their sons and grandsons, and this will go down in history as the most hilariously boring flash ever >_>

You're a genius

I laughed, I cried, I lost five pounds!

An excellent dictation, with scholarly use of gravitas and a piquant wit in the proper locations. Bravo.

My actual score is a 9.625, with .375 removed due to the pretentiousness of the gradient underneath WhiteClock.

its clock day so why not give it 5/5, 10/10?

Rated 0 / 5 stars

No way

I have never and will never like clock crew due to their lack of effort, their lack of talent and the overall boring stories. I don't know why they are so popular, or who they get recognized but I never cease to be amazed...

Thanks for another crappy movie...

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Can't say it doesn't deserve a front page.

I'd forgotten just how much I'd liked this book. I'd say this is probably the longest non-looping spam flash, but I remember someone reading aloud for a really long time. Was that you?

Rated 0 / 5 stars

Time waster.

I have been patient enought, to listen to everything to the very end, in the hope there was going to be something good at the end.

"Stay tunned next year, for chapter two."

I wasted my time. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

well done. Great prank

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars

A boring flash with boring visuals. Most Clock Crew flashes are very basic, and this one just adds another tally to the board. There are CC flashes that are truely commendable, but this is not one of them.

Rated 2.5 / 5 stars

Was that the WHOLE ENTIRE BOOK!?...i watched the first two minutes and my eyes started to hurt...

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars

The Great Gatsby is most certainly not one of the greatest books ever written. In fact, that book is terrible, like Grapes of Wrath terrible. Gief me mah Dr Seuss or GTFO. <3

Rated 5 / 5 stars

One of the Best Books Ever

I absolutely love this book and am eagerly awaiting chapter 2!

No, I'm not being sarcastic, this really is quite possibly my favorite book of all time.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Great Gatsby

The book was good, the reasearch paper sucked. XP

It was a decent idea, but hell, it could have been a lot better.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Poor Jay Gatsby, he never got Daisy to love him. Maybe he should have been himself instead of pretending to be someone he is not. What a shitty book.

Rated 3 / 5 stars

It was an interesting book.
Funny that the last reviewer should say what he did. Way I saw it, Gatsby was a dreamer. Thats why he was more real than any of the others. I found it interesting that you wanted to post a section of Great Gatsby on here. I've never seen that on Newgrounds before(well a first for me). Younger NG members might not get this or appreciate. I found it interesting. As for Gatsby. He was the only guy in the book with balls to chase after his dream, no matter what it took. Im not sure about Rating this. I'm giving 6 though. Not cause it's bad. I'd rather not rate it at all. I think It's something that could create more debate between newgrounders. The resulting debate would be more interesting I think.

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

nice book

all mr.wilson's fault

anyways it was a good book, but I didn't watch till the end, maybe add some animations to accompany the reading?

Rated 0 / 5 stars

What was that?

Seriously? What was that? The Great Gatsby was a good book, but I don't need a computer voice reading it. I stopped in the middle of Chapter 1 because it started giving me a headache. Rethink your strategy of just have a clock read a book... anyone can animate that, not hard.

Rated 0 / 5 stars

no ok

sry i thought it was gonna be some silly flash over the book even tho i hated it book yes i said it i dont like idc if u do go and read it if u like it im not gonna stop u but this is kinda pointless friend at least u didnt do anything stupid

Rated 4 / 5 stars

I'm rating it high

Because it's nice to see that SOMEONE put some high end American Literature on this website. Most of the pre-high school age users won't understand the significance of the book, its many applications, underlying themes, etc...but If they haven't read the book, then it's obviously understandable. I wouldn't have rated it higher, but i didn't feel the animation lent anything to the reading of the book. Now to the actual discussion.

It's funny that Nick carraway says in the beginning that he is inclined to reserve all judgements, yet he spends the entire book judging everybody according to his worldview, and he holds everyone in contempt (deservedly so). As for the reviewer, confidence, I'm not sure I agree that Gatsby was more real than the other characters considering that Gatsby himself is nothing more than a persona invented by Jimmy Gatz as a ploy to ditch his old life. While I agree, there is something admirable about pursuing what you want no matter what the cost, in the end, it isn't worth it because Daisy was never going to go with him, because she and her kind are used to Old Money. To her, Gatsby's money, no matter how much he had, wasn't good enough, and the book portrayed this through the characterizations of the people attending his parties, and the parties themselves. There are no wild, lascivious parties at Daisy and Tom's, because they fit into another eschelon of high society, Gatsby is a fake and is pretending to be somehting he can never be from the outset of the novel until his murder.

That's all for now. If anyone would like to seriously debate this book in a flame free intelligent environment, feel free to send me some messages.

VERY andy kaufman-esque

Rated 5 / 5 stars

Next year?? What'll we do 'til then??

I love Andy Kaufman. People didn't appreciate him or his strange sense of humor then, and most Newgrounders don't now. I've never actually read The Great Gatsby, I'm actually interested to hear the rest.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Culture for the site?

I'm assuming that you actually have the ENTIRE book on that flash, but I didn't take the time to hear all of it. Chapter selection, maybe?

I still find it funny as Hell that you took the time to feed the entire text of the Great Gatsby into that program. That's great.

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

i understand the American literature portion of this... but its too hard to make out in the "clock voice" what the hell they are saying unless you have the book yourself and you are reading along.

no animation what so ever.... its an audio book.

i give you a 7 for having the guts to put some intellectual literature on the site... but i dont like it being in the middle of a bunch of animations. it got rather boring as well.

maybe ill read the book one day. until then i want to satisfy the dumb ass portion of my brain that comes to this site to see retarded videos

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

i thought it was ehh

it was good but bad

Rated 4 / 5 stars

I really liked it

I enjoyed the composition of this flash with the stark white background, the gritty unemotional spekonia voice, and the content of classic American literature.

One technical note would be how much you recorded. I listened through it twice, reading along on an online version to see how far you got into the first chapter. It seems that you didn't quite make it through the entire first chapter. Was this intentional? Maybe my computer glitched.

I guess in a stand up reading in a live audience, it's common for just a short scene of the book to be chosen to let the audience really fall into the world and characters for a brief moment. The length of what you choose certainly accomplished this. There is somthing incredibly eerie about hearing a clock version of The Great Gatsby

It reminds me of Fitter Happier by Radiohead, where the voice is a dumb computer talking about very important things.

I imagined this flash being played on one of times square's giant plasma screens. That would be beautiful.

This flash fully deserves the frontpage that was given and I am glad that this got the extra exposure.

Viva la B :)

Rated 5 / 5 stars

you are awsome

funny as hell, you are a god to have the gut's to do bthis but it was funny as hell.

Rated 4.5 / 5 stars

How friggin long did it take to type that up?!?

I stopped listening around chapter 2 I think, not quite sure.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

I read this in high school

You made it better trust me

Rated 2.5 / 5 stars

A background would've been nice. Also, why did you have to use MIcrosfot Sam, couldn't you have read it yourself?
It would also be nice if we could select chapters, as my ears start to bleed if I listen to more than one chapter at a time.

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

Joke or not, this was an excellent shot at throwing some culture into our everyday internet surfer. I've never read "The Great Gatzby" but only listening to this flash makes me want to pick it up immediately. An individual can say what they want about this book, but I give you a seven out of ten for the uniqueness of this piece. I just couldn't give it a ten for the lack of everything animated...but how could I honestly expect you to do so.

Oh, and for everyone else...before you say it. The clock's voice is done using Microsoft Sam's voice because that is how the most of the Clock Animations have been done. Simply out of tradition. Yeah, he probably could have read it himself, and I bet he would have, but it's not quite the same.

Rated 5 / 5 stars

very good

if you don't continue this next year I shall be quite cross with you

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Tom's buchans an asshole! LOL!

The great gastby was a good book and it's nice to see newgrounders appreciating this peice of literature but I think you might have an issue with copyright laws at some point. Other then that it was a passable flash but how ever it would have been better if you animated the story, Maybe using clocks! If you do that, you have gold.

Rated 0.5 / 5 stars

Where is YOUR content?

You didn't really animate it. The fact that you just took something pre-existing and pasted it into a TTS app and then just slapped a picture of a clock reading a book is disturbing, since this made it up to the front-page.

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

liked a flash that isent for, like most others flashe┬┤s, only for dummys (sry 2 every on feeling them self called dummys)
there wasent realy any animtation but the sound was good so keep it up and it gave you some thing 2 think about

Rated 0 / 5 stars

Why butcher a classic?

Sure, The Great Gatsby is a fantastic book. Why does that mean that you feel it necessary to have it read out in an unintelligible monotone by a badly drawn clock? This isn't a flash. This is utterly banile. How did something this poor make it onto the front page?

Rated 0.5 / 5 stars

I just got to the "I graduated" section. Never read the book, now I don't intend to.

Rated 0.5 / 5 stars

You should've done different...

If I wanted to hear "The Great Gatsby" read aloud to me, I'd go download it as an audiobook.

What you should've done is see about reenacting it using Clock Crew characters. Not only would that depart from the usual random stupid humor the Crew is known for, but it'd also make the story more appealing than a disembodied clock face reading it aloud in incomprehensible Speakonia translation.

You had a good idea there. Combining classic literature with the Clocks would be an awesome thing to see. But only if we're actually INTERESTED in it. We can't take interest in a random clock reading it to us.

Rated 4 / 5 stars

Very Funny an Andy Kaufman joke

are you going to wrestle women now & insult the south?

Rated 1 / 5 stars

would of been okay if...

you used a bit of animation and didnt have the clock talkin like a spiv

Rated 0 / 5 stars

wtf is the point of this?

umm seriously get sum better ideas cuz ur screwing up the clock series...u want inspiration? go watch retarded animal babies cuz they rule!

Rated 0.5 / 5 stars

I don't see the point of this.....

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Its ok but I didnt really get what it was it meant...

Rated 3 / 5 stars

i dont get it

my brain!!!!!! too much words i didnt undertand!!!!!!!!!i like tuna!!!!!!!!!

Rated 4 / 5 stars

A good speech.

Even there was pretty much no animation put into it it did give out a great speech, gotta love Andy Kaufman and those who don't know shame on you. :P

Rated 3 / 5 stars

Well this movie could have been very great.
But it just had one picture.
And an interesting story.
You just needed to do something like animate the story.
It was pretty interesting but it droned on somewhat too long.
Still nice idea.
Just needed improvements.
