Some crap I put together originally for a game, but looks like flash isnt ready for this sort of thing yet - frame rate extremely low. No well-known flash 3d engines were harmed in the making of this; i wrote the engine and it's all pixel pushing no graphics.beginFIll etc (filters are used heavily though). Anyway I hope this entertains someone for at least a minute, cos it took a hell of a lot longer than a minute to make ;)

Anyway, after you watched it and feel the need to post a comment keep in mind :

Yes you can kill enemies
No the collision detection with that ring thing doesn't work (why? total laziness)
"Is this all there is to it??" - Yup, it's a very short interactive tech demo more or less
"Why is it so slow?" - *cough*

The original intention was to do a complete freelancer clone but as far as 3d goes it would be pretty slow and slower than this - rendering it totally unplayable, so its just this for now... but in the future? who knows

Oh and Flash 9 required!

whoa dude...

i played freelancer before and this definitly looks alot like it! makes me wonder about how games can be made like now. great job!!

Whoa!

I did play Freelancer... Great game, BTW. So does this look like. I believe that if you continue working on this, and eventually finish it, you could could be one of the most known Flash artists in history. So get goin'! What're you hangin' around here for?!?! Oh, and if you continue working on it, make sure you have acceleration control implemented.

woah

3d in flash ????????? omfg your a mad man XD

woah

damn that must have taken a hell load of work! just work at it and you could become famous if you made a full game out of this!

Interesting.

This shows potential. And yes, Flash is horribly slow, but I've seen demos for this kind of thing made in Actionscript 3 that ran at 20 FPS without the horribly low framerate. If you can afford Adobe CS3 and to learn AS3, I highly recommend you look into it, because apparently they rewrote Actionscript from scratch to make it more efficient.

3D in Flash is something that's entirely overlooked, with so few attempts, let alone finished products. I like this demo just because you've even tried to go beyond two dimensions. :D

JJ-Birdie responds:

This does use AS3. Most of the drawing is done in software with AS3 (no flash library functions for drawing primitives).
