The Doctor Detective

Author Comments

Hi Newgrounds,
My third submission to the portal is finally here. It follows the work of a man who likes to do lots of different things as a job. A jack of all trades, Trevor the doctor detective is quick and customer friendly - but his level of expertise in all areas concerned leaves something to be desired..

I hope you enjoy it!

tea everywhere! :D

Crazy old teetering tea-cups and their spilling of tea.
I loved it mate, you've got a real individual style of both animation and comedy, a real breath of fresh air.

Burdoc responds:

Thanks for the review man!
Yeah, animation should be about exagerrating things and having tea spill out of cups even if it does end up gushing out like a waterfall :D
I'm not quite up to Boogley levels of exagerration yet, but I fancy doing some non-symbol fbf animation next.. your kind of stuff looks quite therapeutic to make!
Cheers :)

Very stylish, and funny too!

This was one cool flash. The art was really cool, and all the characters had a neo-noir vibe, with the eternally lit cigarettes and silhouettes.

Funny touches like people saying "love" after everything, and taking pictures of the murder scene were great, and really gave some extra personality to it all.

A stylish, unique, and funny animation. Not many things this original come around on Newgrounds - great work!

Burdoc responds:

Yeah, the neo noir thing was something I was going for, but in a comedy sort of way - I'm glad you got the vibe! I tried to make a fully different and unique style out of the cigarette speaking and black silhoettes, but I think I'll change that in future, seeing as smoking is gradually being phased out in society and will soon turn into something of the past.. It's about time I stopped being lazy and learnt to do some proper lip-synching :(
I'm working on refining this style and adding some new, more modern elements and hopefully make a more entertaining and fun flash series. I've found it's not a bad start looking to your stuff for examples of how to do that!

Thanks for the uplifting comments dude!

Cool

Very well done. The voices were cool. lol yeah great job!

Very Wallace & Grommit

Ee, this is second north of England flash I've watched in't week. In't life grand! I agree with the comments about the speed up to a point, but don't lose your style - it's what makes you different. Good flash!

Burdoc responds:

Cheers matey! Life is grand :)
I have learnt a few things from these reviews, things definately do need to move along a bit faster, which i'm sorting out with the next one.. It might lose a bit of that Wallace and Gromit style, but there'll still be plenty of British subtlety and quirkiness for people to get their teeth into.

Ta for't review fella, I'm glad you liked it!

yawn

I liked your submission, it was descent but needs a lot of work. The beginning was to stretched to long and boring. Cut to the chase, i was forcing myself to finish watching it. I would have liked to see different camera angels as well, when he was talking to his wife you should have used a different point of view. Best example would be comic books, there are 50 different panels of 2 guys talking but each panel is different from the other, play around with your angels thats what makes stories more interesting. Other then that The walk cycles need work, overall it was good can't wait to see your next submission.
