Well polar bears can swim in cold waters, not normal bears (plus this bear is kinda stupid - check the jedi bear).

I am not certain, but this looks like a polar bear, and polar bears already know how to swim. Damn me and my logic.

Well as you can see he's not a polar bear(he's brown) but he dresses like one in that cabin. If you dress like a bird that doesn't mean you can fly, right ? He jumped in the water and froze because he wasn't a pola bear (please read the sign on the cabin - dressing room for polar adventures ;) )
