STORY:

"The survival of Athens, and all of Greece, now rests on the legs of a sinlge man: Pheideipiddes, the greatest runner in the history of Greece. But can he cover the 22 miles and make it to Athens in time?"

CONTROLS:

This game plays a lot like Dragon's Lair; ergo, you must press the right button on your keyboard at the right time to continue playing (up, down, left, right). Remember that timing is critical as to when you press, as pressing it too early won't help you at all. Furthermore, press the RETURN/ENTER key at death scenes to leave the death scene and go back to the beginning of the current level (or, if you have used up your last life, the game over screen). Also, if you get tired of having to watch the opening movie every time you lose all 3 lives, just hit ENTER/RETURN during it (but at least watch it completely the first time). The in game instructions contains a section detailing your foes, so you might still want to look at it.

ABOUT THIS GAME:

This is the final project for a Flash Class I am currently taking at College (art 451). While this isn't my first project in Flash, it's very close to it (my third actually). However, I would like to think that the results of my education speak for themselves and in the process say something along the lines of, "This sure doesn't feel like a newbie's work."

Anyways, I hope you have as much fun playing the game as I had making it!

Unique one

First off graphics to be honest this was kind of special and is merely average but you brought some nice effects around it and made for some fun activities Unique, and the art style was cool different from what normaly appears on newgrounds, at the start menu the space bar and enter didnt really work, and this game needs sound/FX, kinda neat though

~X~

This game does play similar to Dragon's Lair, but it lacks the visual keys. You should have a clue before you get killed by a trap. If you added visual keys, than this game would improve.

twas okay

that was a great game, a little frusterating though... i couldnt figure out what keys to press. what bugged me most though, was the long intro. it was kinda boring and you coulnt skip it=/ but still it wasnt bad at all!

Clovis15 responds:

The description says you can skip the intro by hitting enter.

Ow...I got served by a rock...

And a lion...and a guard...and...

It was lot of fun, even though I suck miserably at it. Although, what I enjoyed the most was, after dying, right clicking and pressing play. It will immediatly bring you to the next death scene. That pleased the masochist in me.

Clovis15 responds:

Thank you, thank you very much for the comment. If you experienced death by rock, you're probably more than half way through the game. It's a very short game if you don't count the intro. If you ever want to see the source code so you can see how it was all pulled off, just ask and I'll send it to you sometime. As for the series of deaths part, it's nice to know that you liked that entirely unintended feature... I guess.

A Greek history game? Gasp.

The only real way to beat this game is by trying a lot of different things before you figure out where to go. I do like how it sorta teaches you what happened back then, but ony if you care to notice.

Devoidless

Clovis15 responds:

Yeah, the guy doing the art wanted to do something Greek, and I wanted to do something like Dragon's Lair (and that game literally had you trying everything before you could figure out how to move on as well). Somewhere along the way we decided to do the story of "Marathon" because we decided it'd be ironic to have a game where you die whether you win or not. Thanks for taking the time to review it.
