a) Don't shade it.
b) Snow isn't white. Nothing is white. It is 'off-white'. Make the snow grey, yellow,purple,or blue but as light as you can get it without making it white. Then highlight with white.

yea that makes a lot of sence, but if ou really wanted to get technical you could make the snow a patern with imperfections in it, or jsut randomly put like black dots in it...but it should look random, and then as for highlights, there really aren't any, theres like shine, or glare, which you could have be pure what, but like a lense flare type idea...it would just apear on the snow, it would be look looking into the sun and seeing the spots...

uhhmb, you can make snow white, if you want to have some short of shade foundry on snow try using the alpha to either
1) make a part of the snow transparent(the ends of the flake)
2) make background snowflakes more transparent

on a side not there is a good action scrip that randomly generates snow, it on fk..maye you should check it out

I the lighest part white and the shaded light blue.
And shade it more like you would shade a bush or a cloud, make it so it's just a bit white on the top, and then blue under that, and make some higlights with white in the blue thing

while i was banned i did some cool stuff. I actually got out of the house and played a show with the band. We did very well i thought and we got an offer for a show in january. Also i started a very nice peice of art in drawing class. Its a perspectice drawing of a old broken up gas statioon with trees grown all over it throught the roads and everything. i also did a lot of neat thing on this comp. Heres one:

Since everyone else is talking about snow, I'll post my attempt at it. Think the snow is ok? I had trouble drawing it. I'm definately not gonna finish my cartoon by christmas, guess that means I get a whole year to work on it.
I know that the trees are to clean cut and need more variation.

This is a background i started tonight for a short movie I'm working on. The reason it's so small is because Photoshop doesn't seem to appreciate stuff being pasted from Flash and Flash doesn't save images at the right size... I'm sure there must be something wrong on my part there.

flash can't import huge files, that's why some school's use macromedia director instead of flash. so i guess flash shrinks the size of the portrait so it doesn't lose all quality.

Well dude, what I've learned from 3D is that to shade something really bright to the point where it's supposed to blind you you have to do a number of things. First off, it helps if nothing in the scene is COMPLETELY white, make everything sort of off white. Also, on the part where the sun shines onto it and into the camera's "eyes," make it have a glow effect. What I mean is make a radial shader object roughly the shape of the highlight on the snow and make it white in the middle to white but 0 alpha at the end. Then make it big so it overlaps the highlight and goes out of the highlight's borders. This will make it look like it is glowing and shining and it is making it hard to see what's next to it. Look at my sig, I added a small amount of glow to the wires running around and the letters too. Look how it glows.
