I was flipping through old posts of mine and stumbled across this. The last time I posted it was in June of last year. There's a lot of new folks making runs on the Top 50, so it's time to repost, as it's useful to you as well.

Bt = total BPs of the person currently ranked 50
Ba = average increase of the number 50 (not the one currently there, average increase in the bar at 50) per day
Yb = your total BPs
Ya = your average per day
D = days to top 50
The easy formula:
If Ya - Ba < 0 Your pace is such that the 50 rank will continue to pull away.
The hard one:
D = (Bt-Yb)/Ya + [(Ba(Bt-Yb)/Ya^2]
You will take however many days to get to the point at which they are NOW. The latter part of that is what most people forget. The 50 rank is moving too. How many days will it take you to compensate for that increase (+how many it will take you to compensate for that compensation + etc.)
A simpler way to look at it is to take the main part of that :
(Bt-Yb)/Ya = X
Now it looks like this:
D = X + ((X * Ba)/Ya)

On 1 February, 2003, the person ranked 50 had 2239 BPs and the person ranked 50 has 14,143 as of this morning's recalc. 618 days have elapsed since then. As Denvish has the highest pace (103.54) since last update, and is reasonably close to making the top 50, I'll run the numbers based upon him. You can use that example to figure the numbers out for yourself.
Bt = 14,143 (bmxgamer's total)
Ba = 19.26 (average increase of whoever is the number 50)
Yb = 12,209 (Denvish' total)
Ya = 103.54 (Denvish' average over the past week)
x = (Bt-Yb)/Ya
X = (14,143 - 12,209)/103.54
X = (1,934)/103.54
X = 18.68
D = X+ ((X * Ba)/Ya)
D = 18.68 + ((18.68 * 19.26)/103.54)
D = 18.68 + ((359.78)/103.54)
D = 18.68 + (3.47)
D = 22.15
Presuming Denvish maintains this pace, and that no super speedy comes along *cough*Foxphere*cough to dramatically increase the Ba, Denvish will be back in the NG Top 50 by the recalc on 4 November. There's a lot of presumptions in there, but it should give everyone a ball park on what pace you need to achieve, and how long you'll need to maintain it, to make it into the top 50.
