Actually, the Spanish American War began with the bombing of the Maine battleship, I believe. And the Mexican American War was in response to the pleas of American citizens who had just been annexed by the US in Texas.

The spanish american war started when the American navy declared that the Maine in the port of Havanna hit a spanish placed mine. It was not the case. The Maine had a boiler explode. The Spanish made no hostile actions, but the mistake started the war. The Maine was never bombed. There wern't even bombers until 60 years later. No time machines have reportedly gone back in time and bombed the maines boilers.
The Mexican American war was started when the American army was sent to patrol the borders of Mexico. Mexican troops attacked because they thought that they were hostile. The Americans said that it was in American territory, the Mexicans said it was Mexican territory. Abe Lincoln made the spot resoultion where he declared that the Congress should investigate. He was ignored and the war began anyway. The American troops were in hostile territory and the Mexican troops had justification in attacking.
