And a question for MAC7:
Uhm the song have to be 'original work' rite?

all according to the rules for submitting music to NG.

But what if someone submits a song out of pre-made chord-lines and melody-lines
and mixed them together?

technically, if you didint make them yourself, you can not use them, unless you have the right to use them, just like anyone who own reason can use whatever's in the soundbanks that comes along.

I mean 80% of the perfect-sound-quality comes from the pre-made loops.

It's actually not only about loops even, its about samples too. One millisec sample from a copyrighted album is technically illegal.

The rest of the work is more like sampling, placing FX and stuff.
I mean these kind of songs would be actually about 20% Original work, and less effort put in ofcourse.
I can accept break-loops, but using pre-made chords and synth-lines n stuff like that would
be a littlebit too much for the people who are suffering for day's because they can't get
their song as perfect as they want for example...

Everything there is what one think personally is OK. Basicly, if somone who knows a little about engineering sound uses premade loops, the final product will sound good. If somone new is using high qual. loops/samples it's not al too difficult to spot that the guy is new. Handling the material is in many cases as difficult as creating them.

What you ask of however is valid for submitting music to NG overall, personal purist thoughs are diffrent.

A song takes me ages, since I make most myself from skratch, sometimes drumsamples too, sampling or shaping from synth's. In all honesty, still I don't have shit for that other than personal satisfaction, a good song is still a good song, and a sucky song will suck no matter the quality.

Response to Mac7 - May 2007-05-31 12:41:31

You can use loop samples, like for melody/bass and percussion although I feel that it only hinders your creativity - unless theres a loop there which seems to fit perfectly (even then though i'd try to re-construct it rather than using the loop). As for sound samples in general... well most the digitial music is made from samples from other people/bought samples so it's silly to think we should have to create all the samples ourselves too - not that you are saying that.

Hey kewl, I really like that style =D
Hmm i might try to remix this song in the future, if it's okey to you?

Wow, ehm offcourse you may/can! I am always curious in other interpretations/vibes of my songs done by other creative people.
Take your time please, because it might take a while when I have listened all your submitted songs here...

It only gave me a headache everyday =/

Hey, whatever. Sometimes music is hard. Instead of trying whatever genre you're used to doing, try something new. It's fun to play around, you don't have to be so serious. Not every song has to be a hit. Just worry about having fun :P

And since when were you competitive? Deadlines are for suckers. You allready have a crazy fanbase and what not. People would be more interested in hearing that your actualy working on something for us here, than hearing that your rushing your self into headaches trying to hit deadlines. Just chill out and find a sweet spot.

Damn, I wont be able to make the deadline... oh well. To be honest I was so damn busy I really didnt even start a project for this... But hell I may as well submit an old song...

Try Ghosts in the machine

Not sure if it's very newgroundish. But I think it wouldn't be too bad.

I don't want to dissapoint the listeners by submitting crap.

And i also used this MAC7 contest to try to give myself a little push forward

is to me.

One way to break a crap streak is to make Gabber. Yes it'll sound like crap, too, but it's pure mess around/experimental music. I've used Gabber a few times in the past to make some really catchy melodies. It'll get you a nice feel for a song.

Don't worry about the fails Paragon, most artist hit them at some point sooner or later (trust me) just don't let it bring you down. The trick is to stick to it no matter what. Try working in a completely different genre or working backwards. changing the way you create, can often lead you back on track.

Response to Mac7 - May 2007-05-31 23:34:27

I told you guys i'd submit last minute!

Sub 1 (New):The Journey

Sub 2 (Old):The Tanks Thunder (second appearance baby!

Also paragon. I firmly believe the reason you cannot produce anything is fear of failure. You have so many people waiting for something from you that anything below this ridiculous standard you've set for yourself is unacceptable.

My solution, make an alt, and start having fun again.

You may not want to do this because you won't have a fanbase to start off as, but quite frankly, unless you find a way to loosen up and start having fun with what you do, i'm afraid you'll remain in this writers block state for a while yet :/

On another note, my new submission actually holds the story of newgrounds in it! For those who care it is as follows:

A long while back I remember Tom said this, and don't quote me exactly, but it was something along these lines

"I changed the slogan (from "Tomorrows problems, Today!" to "Everything by Everybody!") because you can't be whiny emo kid forever"

For this reason, the beginning is that of a sadder, more sorrow filled opening.

Tom started this whole website business through his own small creations. Comic pages he'd take and fill in the bubbles to his own story/jokes. The comics caught popularity and he found himself doing more.

He then opened a beta flash portal if you will, intended to have his own work as he dived into Flash. Others began to email him their own flashes and he would put them up there one by one.

Eventually the submissions got too much and he made an automated flash site. The first of it's kind to ever grace gods great internets.

For this reason, the song gradually becomes more and more diverse and powerful. Different people from different parts of the globe filled the site with more diversity and a greater range, and so the song follows suit. (The large bangs symbolize the super fads that struck Newgrounds. Clocks, Numa Numa, Star Syndacite (mispelled?), Foamy, and all the other big things here on Newgrounds)

And we look at today. It has become quite the site. Filled with audio artists, flash artists, programmers, and so much more. And that is shown through the segment in which the brass and Erhu violin are really going at it, full timpani and snare set up.

And we look to the future, the redesign which is horribly delayed, but slowly coming our way! This is shown through the sudden halt of the other instruments, and the choir and strings go together. After all, the new additions to newgrounds is here, the strings, the choir which is always constant (being Tom here), are quietly and eagerly waiting for the new chapter of this website.

It ends with a large strike, which is the redesign, but since I have not seen, nor know how it will be, I had to cut the song there ;).

Enjoy.

Hey, I'm up against some big hitters here! I pulled no short corners!

This song pushed my computer to it's limits. I need more RAM so badly XD.

A big thanks goes to LJ and Zenon (and everybody else) for the tips concerning the percussion hits. I didn't master it, but it's sounding a lot better.
