I just try to follow the same standard unless something special is happening. If I know for a fact that a light source is present in the scene, then I'll draw the shading to match. If pico's head is hanging over his body, then there will probably be extra shadow on his chest.

The most important thing about shading is the lightsource. The colors are pretty easy, there is a tut about shading on the portal that I suggest you to take a look at.

Looks good, but I don't know if its just the quality or not but the color on the shirt is too bland and plain, use the actual Pico color of the shirt, the lighter green and I think it would look a lot better. Otherwise the head and everything else look great, very stylish.

The crap quality shot the color down heavily, the BG was supposed to be the color of NG, but as you can tell, the color got alot worse, it also knocked out the shding on the hair and the shirt.
