I'd suggest looking into Rebirth. Its an older program that was release for free from Propperlerheads. Its a 303/808/909 simulator that works well, and its free. As for exampels of it, well look around on myspace or Itunes.

I used rebirth. I didn't like it at all. It didn't have the great feeling of FL. FL is my homie for life, yo. I love it very much.

I tried making music while wasted once. I think all I managed was hysterical giggling upon opening Sytrus, passing out on my keyboard, playing the C pad with my nose for about 14 hours until I woke up. Poor speakers.
