well i use 800x600 but if your expanding then i will expand my self you have to evolve to survive right. anyway good luck with your expansion of the screen resolution

no seriously, I like being able to surf NG while idly watching a flash movie in another window on the side. if there should be a switch in resolution it should be to 320x240!! ;)
My mother's PC has a max of 800 x 640. (yeah, my mother visits NG. Scary.) It's a fairly big monitor, but it's 5 years old.
Mine's 1024 x 768. Can go higher.

Here's stats from W3C (dated Oct. 2004) :
1024x768 or more : 61%
800x640 or less: 39%
According to those figures I'd say a lot more than 20% use a screen size under 1024x768, so I dunno if it's worth expanding.

i use a i guess prolly 18 inch monitor and i like the way 800X 600 fits on it but i could esily chnage to 1280X1054 or whatever
No problems here, i run dual moniters both at 1280 x 1024.
Lots of sites run at a higher resolution - I think with a temp. notice (as Wade mentioned) we shouldn't see too many problems.
I use 800X600, same on my laptop, please don't switch Ton, Ng would be such a hassle scrolling everywhere.

I use 800X600 but i relly don't care if the site gets larger; i can always just hit f11 if it really bothers me that much.
I think you should update but not without a preview page first and perhaps a poll later?
I am a receint convert, untill a few days ago I was below that, but I got a new moniter that woulden't work unless it was above that.
I use 800 x 600 but I can easily change it. That is not a problem but don't go over 1028 x 768.

Um, well that is literally the case on my laptop ;)
It should be possible to make two different schemes, and use some sort of script to determine which one would be more fitting for each user. I'm no Web Page designer though.

I use 800X600. I can go bigger but than my computer goes buggy. I would live through it if I had you.
I am using 1280 I would change the resolution. If the people who have smaller monitors There is really cheap 17-22 inches monitors you can probably find on e-bay.
On the otherhand it might be hard to get use to the change in screen size.
