Obscure N64 games 2024-04-09 01:07:20

Basically the most strange and obscure N64 game you played or seen!

Personally: the mist obscure for me was Chameleon Twist. I say this because it's rarely mentioned online, I know it is... And that there's a sequel(?) But it's hardly mentioned... Um... I actually hated the game when I was younger: after 100%ing the game the annoying parts became so disgusting I ended up hating it. Now I realize it's probably something to just be played once and never again๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ there's probably more like Tonic trouble and Nightmare Creatures... But I kinda burned out those memories๐Ÿ˜…

So what's a obscure N64 game you played?

Chameleon Twist 2 was one of those games every kid had in their room but nobody ever played.

I tried some unreleased game that got leaked once long ago, I guess that counts.

It's a grabble-hook based platformer/racing game. It's fucking bizarre, the menus are 90's as fuck and it's actually really fun to play.

It's 50% less fun without friends tho. Definitely worth a try single player.iu_1187235_1202134.webp

I played the hell out of War Gods with my older brother. Cheesy Midway fighter, but still really fun.

I also thoroughly enjoyed renting Aero Gauge from Blockbuster. Cool little futuristic racer, more memorable than Extreme G3 Racing.

None of those titles are probably obscure, but that's what I got.

One obscure N64 game I had a lot of fun with was "WinBack: Covert Operations". If I had to describe its gameplay, I'd say it's a lot like the original Metal Gear Solid, but minus the stealth.

Haven't seen this at all, but it sounds like something that deserves a rerelease

I love this game and i would absolutely hate for them to make a re-release. Just play the original, it's still good.

Rocket: Robot on Wheels

Space Station Silicon Valley

And this one is not really obscure but I would say it's under-appreciated and not too well known, it's Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, one of my favorite N64 games, it takes the core gameplay of Pac-Man and expands it into a full adventure

had no idea Mrs Pacman had any games outside of the arcade cabinets. Wonder why she doesn't have more games, instead of mostly just being part of collections? She could've also been in Smash....

Also "Rocket" and "Space Station" seem like hidden gems: I believe they would've scared me as a child both are waaaaaay uncanny looking๐Ÿ˜‚

these 2 look like fun games to play

the first one is a 3d platformer with Zelda-esque elements

the sequel is like a 2.5D platformer

Goemon isn't very obscure. It was always being talked about/reviewed highly in magazines.

This was grand theft auto lite before grand theft auto was even thought up.

DMA design (Later become rockstar) made it.

There's this "Rakugakids" game that I find pretty neat. It's a fighting game where the character's are all just children's doodles, I may suck at it, but it's still a lovely concept

I didn't play it, but it's considered a bad game.

That's not irony, but I know what you mean.

I am surprised to hear there was an actual DDR game released for that console exclusively in Japan and it features the cast of Mickey Mouse. I say that as, for my knowledge, the only port of those games at that time were mainly on the PS1 and the GBC.

Here's an obscure one that's actually good: Tactics Ogre: Person of Lordly Caliber.

Oh yeah! Mickey's Speedway USA. I tried it a long time ago and I liked it. Even though it's not as beloved as Mario Kart 64 or Diddy Kong Racing, it's still a really fun kart game for this console. It was even made by Rare who also made the already mentioned DKR. Additionally, the OST of this game is surprisingly good. Especially the one for the Chicago course set in a sewage that uses droplets sound effect for the music. The part at 1:08 didn't need to go that hard, but they did it anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVzOxcnjdOU
