Doesn't matter that much nowadays: the vast majority of preamps in modern budget interfaces are pretty good when it comes purely to the recording side of things. Moreso: headphone preamp, build quality and firmware/driver stability and support are the main things to keep an eye on.


From general experience when it comes to a mixture of hardware features, measured results and quality of drivers, I can recommend any of the following depending on your budget-ranges:


Below £50: Behringer UMC22

£51-100: Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen (not the 3rd/4th Gen), or Audient EVO 4

£101-£150: Audient iD4 MK2, or Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 MK2

£151-200: MOTU M2

£201-300: MOTU M4

(won't go above £300+range, as that's a different topic entirely)
