So I decided to switch game projects again in my quest to find something simple enough to work as a first game in Godot. The current project is inspired by a joke made by @Spaggo about making a mascot horror game where there’s no actual monster, and a tweet a friend found where someone reviewed Disco Elysium by effectively saying “instead of this I want a detective game with just as good writing but give it the plot of a 2010s Cartoon Network show and have it star a cute cottagecore witch.” As if detective games and other narrative-driven games aren’t already the favorite genre of anyone who wants to draw in pastels and write about grief and finding your identity.
Here’s a quick sketch of our protagonist, based on the clipart that Twitter user put in their post.
While she is supposed to be satirical, I actually find her kind of endearing. I think I did a good job on her design and referencing the ”CalArts” art style stereotype without intentionally misrepresenting it as an ugly style.

If the ghost was drawn really cartoony it could almost be a Pokémon, since we already have examples in the games of cloth ghosts (Shuppet, etc), hands coming out from the backs of heads (Hatterene), and Pokémon wielding weapons (Tinkaton, etc).

Now that you mention it, yeah, it does look like a Pokemon somewhat, even though I hadn't considered it initially.
I doodled a mimikyu with those weird ghost hands a while ago on my drawing board and I guess that design transferred over to my own character without thought:
