Hello! This is just another one of those posts where I share my little drawings!

Granted, i've just learned that you can post art into the forum (not the only one here), but it is at least something that i can show off my muscles!

There's gonna be sketches, studies and a few scraps and scribbles!

So long as you don't steal them.

Kool Scullz

Last week, I studied the anatomy of the head.

I aimed to finish the skeletal features by the end of the week, so I can then move on to the other features like the muscles and the constructs and how the expressions work and so and so.

Well, next week rolled on, and I hadn't yet made a start on the muscular features.

But what I got out of it is very useful! How the bones fit together like a puzzle piece, how the nasal passage is usually about as high as one of the eye-sockets, and how some of the bones create the features.

iu_1035079_17284254.jpg

for example, the zygomatic bone create the extneded features of the cheeks

I turned to Youtube tutorials for my studies, as I couldn't afford to go to an art session. This was a bit tricky, since they all have their own methods to draw skulls. But I wasn't looking for any method, just a way to learn the ins and outs of a skull.

As a result, that helped me understand the basic features of the face. Although, at first I blindly followed the first tutorial I saw.

It wasn't bad by all means, escpecially with the side view, but I found it to be a bit wider than usual. Looking back at it, I hadn't yet understand how the bones make up the skull.

iu_1035080_17284254.webp

But, I'm proud of this one - if I say so myself.

iu_1035081_17284254.webp

Looking at Jazza's tutorial helped me understand how some of the cavities and bones help shape the head.

iu_1035082_17284254.webp

I assessed myself on drawing the skull front and side without looking at the tutorial (but surprise surprise I did) and saw that skull was a bit wider than usaul.

iu_1035083_17284254.webp

Following that, i studied the composition of the bones, using an extremely helpful online model for reference. It's a bit clunky but it shows enough info for me to understand.

iu_1035084_17284254.webp

Onto the side view, I pushed myself further by imagining how the head fits over the skull. As well as a few things that can help me.

iu_1035085_17284254.webp

Going blindly without references (other than me and my brother), I drew some faces attempting to follow some guidlines i made up in my head, whilst also assessing my own handiwork.

iu_1035086_17284254.webp

This improved my drawing skills by a huge amount, but this is only the beginning so I have a lot ahead at the moment.

I think getting a real-life example of a head for reference will helpful, it's a shame since it's a hassle to get one, especially if you're skint on money...

A Study in Calvin

Yesterday, I studied the many aspects of Calvin (well... a few out of a billion)

iu_1038801_17284254.webp

The way Bill Watterson portays Calvin is very interesting: how he is always in a constant state of motion whenever and whatever he's doing. The free-form lines shows his care-free youthfulness, but with a smidge of maturity from the passiveness of it.

His expression are also to take note, when he's in a passive mood he has those iconic dotted eyes. But at moments of f*ckups, they become exaggerated to break the moment of mundanity. Be it when he gets pounced, grossed out by a worm or inhales the sweetness of mustard.

iu_1038802_17284254.png

case in point

In a sense, Calvin represents our inner child, the curious sort that goes by no means of destruction, but also finds the time to be with oneself.

But... there's always a time when things move on. Watterson's genius move to end the strip makes it so that Calvin doesn't become washed down and bland.

Much like the other spiky rascal...

Here's some things i've been working on.

Slowly.

Like, when I get to them.

One idea I have is a cat barbershop quartet, comprised of a Calico, Siamese, Tuxedo and a schwarzes Loch.

There's other stuff as well, which are curently in the shelves gathering dust at the moment.

Some I might restart, but some I think shouldn't be the light of day.

Made some little doodles for a game project, featuring my protagonist Willie and the main villain Larva.

It's inspired by crash bondicoot, with only a permadeath run, where he must escape the nightmare.

Bring out the Bodies

Yesterday, I went to an art tutor to help me with my drawing. I wanted to focus on human anatomy right now, since I want to design characters in mind. She let me copy and study some body linework and volumetric shading. I am going to censor these to keep my thread SFW (god forbit there would be an ounce of nudity nor a little tit for tat, gasp).

I'm also providing some links for the uncensored versions, for the real people out there.

Volumetric Shading

I'm also gonna add another, weeks before I attended the session. It's a guide for the human anatomy in general, that's all. But I bet it's gonna be helpful for a lot of peeps!

Hands, Nothing Else

A certain 33-year-old recluse businessman would like this, today I studied the anatomy of... hands!

This is gonna be one step to improving after noticing a certain post (wink-wink).

But after learning about them, safe to say I'm more confident in drawing hands now!

iu_1071111_17284254.webp

Here's some juicy fingers as well.

Great work on all the studies in this thread! Definitely looking forward to seeing more.

For your more Funny Pages style cartoon drawings you could probably push some of their posing a bit more too really exaggerate their personalities and emotions. The Calvin sketch where there's the wind up and throw, I think both poses can have a more dramatic lean back and forward respectively, Keep up the great work!

Daily Dwarwingz

Because I haven't been posting on this board for quite a while, I decided to share my morning drawing practice.

I adopted this quite a while ago, which helped improve my drawing skills. But ever since I slacked during the summer, my drive had been a bit down lately (drawing not... nevermind)

So, I'm gonna start again. Using a pen and an A6 note pad, it'll improve my linework and shadowing.

Without further ado, meet moog, leepshtook and wöman

Mi Frendo

Here's my friend on the bus I drew. Gotta say, I really captured the likeness of him!

Though I could improve on it by making sure the face fits nice and snug in the head, it looks like he's wearing a mask of some sort.

iu_1106241_17284254.webp

I left my pen at home, so I had to use my pencil instead.

Love me a Moonshine

iu_1107006_17284254.webp

Got a pen with me this time!

Drew a bottle of moonshine in my brother's bedroom, it was really difficult sketching the reflection thingies on paper, especially on ink. I managed to get the lines in place this time around, even with shading it. Gotta say, drawing on pen is really fun to do, makes you think!

iu_1107635_17284254.webp

Hmm, not bad. Especially with drawing ellipses, it's a bit icky drawing a bowl.

Maybe if I think about the overall shape next time, it might clear things up a bit.

In case you're wondering, yes, I actually have this hat in real life.

Treasure of mine really, found it in a Cambridge market, been with me ever since!

iu_1108002_17284254.webp

The drawing in question is a bit messy, it's clearly difficult trying to get the volume and shading right with a pen. Drawing it much bigger would make it easier to add detail

iu_1108618_17284254.webp

Followed my own advice by making this much more bigger.

I think the reason I drew smaller was getting worried I might waste paper.

Dumb as balls. Anyway, when drawing, it's always best to use it. Because unused paper is wasted paper.

Could see I'm improving myself. I decided to do more, so I did a bit more shading.

Expressing volume for a not-so-solid shape is tricky, but I got the gist of it.
