Well well, here we are, the first big project of the year! And it's a classic scalie waifu. Gotta love Cynder.

It took a while for me to complete, especially with all those scales (😩), but I'd definitely say it was worth it! It took me almost a month from beginning to end if you include failed attempts and generally trying to figure out how to even draw Cynder, lol

My first attempt; I liked the pose, but it didn't have the right energy for what I needed, and I needed to study how her face was supposed to look.

I drew a fish (?) waifu-

She was inspired by a dream I had, but the design ended up diverging from that quite substantially (the only common factors you can see here are: yellow, big cute eyes, and wearing a suit to come onto land). It was fun adding little aquatic influences from various species (as well as one non-aquatic one: the snoot holes come from ball pythons just because I thought it would fit and be cute).

A look at her species' life cycle (the only other thing directly taken from the dream), and two rejected doodles which I replaced on the coloured sheet with the two wacky expressions in the bottom left:

The last Wallace & Gromit short, in 2008, introduced a poodle girl named Fluffles, and boy howdy, when I looked at her again after not seeing her in 15 years, I certainly saw her in a whole new light and was like wow, she kinda cute tho. So that's how this happened.

I did modify her a bit for my style though, mostly in giving her a floppy fringe. I think it looks good on her, even if the energy it gives off is a bit different. Here's a progression of me figuring out her look (ignore the nightmare fuel in the top left):

Here's a followup to something I made last year -

Last year it was Magnemite (link in post description), this year it's Porygon2, one of my favourites! This is a simpler design, but I'm nonetheless really happy with her. Here are some early sketches for comparison:

She had an elbow gloves look early on. It clicked for me when I made the blue part of her body look like a low-backed dress and made her legs red as if she were wearing a swimsuit. And I'm not sure how the Zelda hoodie came about, but I like the idea of her being a nerd who likes Nintendo games. 😛

Haha. TBH I'm not into "scalies" but out of the non-mammal-based anthro shit I have a supersoft spot for... ducks. :p You can blame Topolino for that. xD But yeah, the art looks nice.

A new waifu - or actually a husbando this time!

I guess it was inevitable that I'd make a Vaporeon OC at some point, but somehow "goth femboy" wasn't what I was expecting to happen. I had a vision of the head fin flopping down over one eye like hair, and it just went on from there. (I like him a lot, but as you can see, I still don't know what he should wear, lol)

You can see my original concept sketch in the top right here; I added the extra head fin seen in Vaporeon's Red & Green sprite, and later added the slightly different ears seen in that sprite as well.

This one was quite daunting to me since I had almost no experience drawing A) bears or B) somewhat realistic curly hair, but I think I pulled it off well enough.

I was struck with inspiration to make a seal OC, so I went right ahead and did just that -

I'm really proud of how she turned out! The design came together surprisingly quickly; this was all the sketching I needed before going right ahead with lining and colouring! Though it did take me 3 hours on livestream to figure out that colouring... and also, uh, disregard the warmup linzerds on the left :P

It's been a while, but I made another Spyro pic for a big video project -

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Enter the Dragonfly playthrough I did with my brother on YouTube, I made a big highlights compilation - and for the thumbnail, I drew us riding Spyro to escape the horrors in the game. The video is linked in the image description if that sounds like your cup of tea, as is the livestream VOD of me working on the drawing - mainly lineart, but with some sketching and colouring too.

This was one of my more ambitious drawings, so I'm happy that it went pretty well! I think it lived up to the concept I mocked up below:
