Thank you everyone for your submissions!

Sorry I'm a little late in announcing: I was traveling and then I attended a death metal show at a burrito restaurant. Now that my obligations are out of the way, I am happy to announce that WVDB has been selected as the winner of this first Poetry Jam! The theme was "Crush" and it was awesome to see so many variations on this theme, but nothing transported me quite so much as their submission:

No balm can heal my lips, so read

Them if you dare to cut your eyes

And ears by the tall tales and looks of a slave

Of Hadrianus, thrown in the sand, to bleed

And feed a roaring, wicked beast, unfathomable in size

Escaping the clenched fist, the pike and the glaive.

There is no beginning to my story, know only

That despite a slave, I am no sufferer

For in my good living years I fed a beast

Through savage entertainment, and thus, pronely

Became one of the monsters myself, in my violent slumber

I crushed any bones my challengers had left... Until I ceased.

I ceased to feel when my bones were crushed as well

A treacherous pick dug through my leg

My body fell and found no enjoyment in the pain

As my back hit the sand, as the beast raised Hell

Some joyful souls in its stomach would beg

For my life to be spared, and since then, it's never been the same.

Damn! That's some good stuff. As promised I will be providing one month's worth of supporter for them or a user of their choice: I see currently they are already a supporter so I hope they have someone in mind. Alternatively, I'm happy to make a donation to Newgrounds in your honor.

Everyone: thank you so much for you submissions. I hope you had as much fun creating them as I did reading them (and I read all of them multiple times to choose a winner!). I'm really happy with the response this got, so keep an eye out in the writing forum for an event for the second half of the month! See you on the boards!!

Thank you very much.

Now that I've given my contribution to the Writing forum, you shall never see me ever again.

Farewell.

I though it sounded kind of irrelevant and heartless
