Xero's Art Thread 2021-04-19 16:23:29

Hey! So I've used Newgrounds on and off since about 2005 but outside of when I first made this account back in 2012 for posting music, I've never really interacted with the NG community in any real form. Since I picked up art last year due to the whole pandemic giving me time to start a new hobby, I've been trying to practice a lot when I'm in the mood to do so.

I'll post a few pieces of art I've done recently along with anything I make from now on as long as I remember to do so. I hardly ever get advice on what I can do to improve so basically everything I've done so far has been completely self taught trial and error. Absolutely ANY advice, criticisms, and tips are welcome!

Here are some recent pieces I've done:

I feel like I'd be lying if I stroked my e-peen and said it was good art in this thread

It's not great, the pose could've been a bit better and some elements look off but I'm happy with how this turned out overall.

I'm not dead, I just haven't had anything I felt was good enough to really post. That said, I'm really proud how this piece turned out:

Aye I'm also now just interacting more with the community, more so with this NSFW alt but I'm doing my best to keep the main active too. Anyway, nice art overall if I'd give any advice I'd say your hair structure on some works could use a redesign. Even if its robo hair also try and experiment with more dynamic shading, your cell shade is alright don't worry but you could get some good works from giving more volume to the art. either way keep up the good work!

Yeah that's one of the big things I've had issues wrapping my head around for awhile now. I've been sort of avoiding trying to do it as most everything I look into for advice or tips for more advanced shading I have issues following.

yea it ain't easy to get advanced shading done easily after all you gotta train your eye and mind to take a 2D work and add dimensionality to all the shapes. It's best to practice by making works that have simple shapes and shade the simple shapes individually first and go from there, actually, robots are great for this. it's a slow process but start small take is easy and you can start to get the feeling of how and were to shade to add dimension after awhile. Best of luck!
