The closest thing to an arcade around me is some of the bars that are out in the country usually have a hunting game, a bowling alley, and/or a pinball machine. I'll try to get some pinball in every once in a while.

I actually went to one on Tuesday, but mostly for the mini golf.

A truly prophetic sig...

I would if I knew where there was one. Only places I know that have them here are cruise ships, and it's been a few years since my last cruise...

Not only are they harder to come by, but good luck finding one where the arcade owner actually keeps the machines in good working condition.

The joysticks will probably be crap, especially the diagonals, buttons may or may not work, dancing games will likely have non-functioning panels, light gun games might flat-out not work at all other than taking your money, etc...

Also you can have problems with the picture, with sounds, etc, but usually the control problems are the biggest.

Then there's these new-style arcades that are complete garbage. The games will just be a bunch of luck-based stuff like basically gambling games but without a money prize payout, although it may have certain items you can win or tickets you can win, which could then be exchanged for prizes, which in theory have a cash value, so I'm not entirely sure how it's legal in most areas, but maybe it's legal loopholes or all those places would be shut down. I don't know.

These new-style arcades frequently won't have even a single skill-based game in the lot, and just entirely the gambling type games.

It's badass enough you get to work in a pinball arcade, but you also you get to chill on NG while working there. That's the dream honestly.

There's a place in my hometown that has all the classics. Pinballs, shooters, DDR, etc. You don't pay per play, you pay by the hour and it's BYOB. Friendly for all ages and reserved for adults after a certain time at night. It's a great idea and I wish I was a little closer because I'd gladly spend my money there more often

An actual stand-alone arcade is all but gone where I live, which are replaced by ticket machines, which kind of makes me wonder if they were designed for skirting around gambling laws or something.

About the closest to an actual arcade that I know of are bar-arcade hybrids, which are surprisingly well-maintained and the patrons have some decorum, considering inebriation, reduced motor skills/judgment and competitive fervor can be a volatile mix.

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I can't imagine you're supposed to be on NG. Still cool they don't care if you do your job.

Nope, mostly because they are rare to find anymore.

Been around since 2004. (as a lurker that is!)

Does Chuck E. Cheese still count? Their caveat sadly being lone, adult males cannot simply wander in of their own volition without the accompaniment of pustulous, screaming puke-factories.

You ever go to the one I used to work at? North of you on Rt. 18 South in Old Bridge (there's a Wal-Mart there now), was called FunMania. Had a mini golf course out front, spinning tea cups and bumper cars inside. Didn't have as many pinball games as @bucknike1 but a good assortment.

Maybe there'd be more arcades around, if they'd just go non-profit, call it a museum. The foreign replacement parts and games are pricey enough, add to that the electric bill each month for all those old CRT's and transformers that mostly get unplayed (idle)

Vault 101 I have many old and deleted Flash submissions, PM me the filename, maybe I got it.

It takes a good few hours to get to the nearest arcade to me that isn't just slot machines. I'd love to go to one again at some point but honestly I just CBA with it when I can play games at home.

In my opinion is does.

However, the classic arcades back in the 90's typically don't exist anymore. When I mean classic, I mean something more than a pin ball machine in the corner with a crane machine.

I remember on saturday's going to play mortal kombats, street fighters, tekken type games as well as the shooter.

Those typically don't exists in malls but have to go places like a Dave and Busters, chuckie cheese type deal.

Not gonna happen anymore and the cost to actually get your hands on an original is going to break the bank more often than not. Start getting savvy with power tools and RasberryPi. Make your own booths. Make your own arcade. It's really the best way to go now.

I used to go to the arcade all the time and even continued to visit about a year or two ago. Sadly, I moved up north and all the arcades are in seriously ghetto ass places. I'm not going to an arcade for the pleasure of being mugged.

Would love to visit sometime just for those! :D Even apart from Pachinko they seem to have a lot of fun stuff we'd never even get here...

In Mexico there are some of what would be consider as "arcades" but those are just Xbox emulator that give you a fee of 5 pesos per hour. You can still find some people who can't afford a console and most of the time they go and play GTA SA

Which one did you have in mind? If it's any of the ones in Cincinnati, I'd totally say you should do it. The two I'm thinking of are fantastic!

A few times a year, there's a great place a half an hour away from me that has all the machines set to free-play and you can buy a daily pass for $25 and is open 12pm-2am
They've got dozens of classic arcade cabinets(including Joust, yay) pinball mahcines, air hockey, some couches with a every major game console ever made, etc.

Best part is they hang poorly painted sonic fanart on the walls.

I have a gatti land pizza place next to my house. They have a good sized arcade and I never go to the arcade. I go there to eat the pizza available at the buffet 8 bucks per adult. I just don't care for using money on them. But thank god for arcades because Id probably would never learned the awesome of Metal Slug without them.
