Just a pet project of mine here. They are, well literally what they title says. short fairytales. I'm curious what people think about this, and how it holds up in a public space. harsh criticism is also appreciated. keep in mind, these are fairytales, so no incredibly deep plots, but they do have a message or a cultural inspiration.

The princess and the unicorn

There once was a princess in a faraway land.
She promised to give an old man her hand.
But she did not want to, she was forced into it.
Clever as she was, this is what she did:

She snuck out the castle in the cover of dark.
And covered her clothes with leaves and with bark.
No one could see her as she went in the woods.
Her only company was the squeaking of her boots.

the search of love is how her time was spent.
But they were never enough ,wherever she went.
Tired and dirty she came to a fall.
The moonshine on the water made it look like a hall.

And while she admired she heard something come.
She was frightened and her limbs went numb.
As she turned she could not believe her eyes.
This was no vision and also no lies.

A unicorn stood there mighty and proud.
And spoke to her softly, not loud.
"Since you saw me I will grant one wish for you".
"I wish for my true love, honest and true".

"Your wish has been granted" spoke the beast then.
And out of a water, rose up a man.

They fell in love at the very first sight.
And danced in the water for all of the night.
They lived happily in the forest from then.
Miracles do happen, you just don't know when.

The little man in the flask

Once upon a time in a castle on a hill.
An alchemist lived, in for a thrill.
For many miles away he was the best.
And asked the villagers for a request.

A golden plough was an easy task.
And a breeze was the ever filled cask.
But after them a couple came to him.
Filled with despair and sad to the brim.

They wanted a child, which they could not get.
After time and again, nothing happened yet.
The alchemist looked with a frown on his face.
This was a most unusual case.

He delved in his books and made a big fuss.
The answer was clear, the homunculus.
A little man in a flask, hard to create.
But he had to do it, for the woman and her mate.

First came the flask, and in went the seeds.
And some manure, from a horse that ate reeds.
He let this brewing rest for forty nights and days.
Then it started to stir and it appeared in a gaze.

A little ball of gas was now in the flask.
It seemed to have the shape of a mask.

This little creature needed to be fed.
one drip of blood each day, violently red.
The alchemist repeated this for forty weeks.
and slowly a figure formed, with blushing cheeks.

It soon learned to speak and think for itself.
And all that in the flask on the shelf.
Its creator was filled with joy and pride.
Feelings so strong he could no longer hide.

He rushed to the couple and their little home.
And brought with him the man in the glass dome.
He showed them their new homunculus child.
The new parents saw him and immediately smiled.

With the three of them they had a family.
The man in the flask went in their family tree.
And though he did not grow an inch in his life.
Every happy day was without any strife.

No matter your looks or how you are born.
A family can be anyone, so please never mourn.
Embrace who you have and with some good help.
You can have a family, like a wolf and her whelp.

The rabbit and the weasel

There once was a rabbit, incredibly clever.
And now we will hear of her great endeavour.

She lived her life in a burrow.
Right under a beautiful willow.
The grass was green and bright.
And the river was cool and light.

And in this burrow she lived with her children.
Ten of them, but she wanted a million.

But one day the clouds grew grey.
The weasel came, to their dismay.
The hungry beast tried to eat the kids.
Chew them up, into bits.

But the rabbit was courageous and brave.
She proposed a wager, to keep her children safe.
A riddle was posed to stop this new hell.
A riddle she knew good and well.

"Which creature walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon and three legs in the evening?"

The weasel was stumped and had no idea.
He went away moping to everyone's glee.

She went home to tell all was okay.
But what was the answer by the way?
The answer was man, how about that?
Our brave rabbit used to be a pet.

The dance of the nixies

My tragic tale will forever be told.
A rapid change from the days of old.
So let this be a warning to all.
Never to wander during rainfall.

One faithful day I walked past the river.
There was a sound that made me shiver.
When the raindrops fell from the sky.
A tone went through me, ever so high.

It was enchanting, I could not say less.
I followed it and saw a sight of finesse.
The river was dancing, changing with shapes.
Once as a horse, then a woman in drapes.

The creatures in the river kept this display.
chasing each other, once hunter, once prey.
It was the most beautiful sight I ever did see.
I feel to my knees and started to plea.

"Let me join you oh maidens so fair".
The beauty was slowly too much to bear.
They came closer with an curious look.
And smiled at me, whilst my hand they took.

The touch of the woman was soft at first.
She looked at me then with an odd thirst.
The grip got tighter and started to hurt.
I felt my feet being dragged to the dirt.

They all gathered and pulled me down.
The water was cold and I started to drown.
I felt my limbs changing and now am I stuck.
A nixie am I. I ran out of luck.

I should never have followed the voice in the rain.
Since it now caused me is misery and pain.
My life is now over and a lesson was learned.
Don't watch the nixies, or you shall be turned.

How to stop the dark elves

The lights danced through the night sky.
It looked like the antics of a firefly.
But this were no simple mortal beings.
These lights gave you fearful feelings.

For in the brightness that appeared.
The dark elves cursed, mocked and sneered.
Playing tricks on who found them.
These were creatures to condemn.

They pulled on the hair of girls and women.
They tripped and spat on boys and men.
All while filling the sky with laughter.
And all the mean words soon thereafter.

They held diseases in their in their palms.
And dragged the kids away from moms.
They enchanted you to follow.
And to make your dreams turn to hollow.

In the deepest dark of night
You could only see their light.
And they pull you in for good.
fear these creatures, yes you should.

But for us there is a way.
To keep these creatures far at bay.
I will now tell you the trick.
To stop the elves in a flick.
Fill a glass with wine or beer.
And the mischief will stop here.
And you also need a spell.
It will be helpful, listen well.

Spin a circle to the right.
This will help you stop their flight.
Tap the glass two times, not more.
This will surely make them sore.

And when you go to bed that day.
The elves will come but they won't stay.
They will drink the drink real fast.
And this will not make them last.

They will return to their place.
This spell will now stop their chase.
You can rest with a light heart.
The elves are finished with their art.

Thanks a lot man. Glad to hear you like the style. I've got about 13 now but not sure if I should put all of them out on the internet. Probably going to bundle a bunch of them, get someone to illustrate them and try getting them published.

I can't say how happy I am that it's not a waste of time. thanks again.

I wasn't planning to throw more stories online from my slowly growing bundle but I am quite proud of this one. though it was a hell to come up with and research. so enjoy I guess?

Nelda's journey to the sun

There once was a spirit of the lake.
By elder trees she held her wake.
Nelda was what she was called.
Never did she leave or stalled.

This spirit was a protector.
And a very wise spectre.
When the men gathered at the elder tree.
She let their minds run free.

Filling their head with the best plan.
And form wisdom for this man.
But if you cut the tree down.
You best form a concerned frown.

Bad luck will befall you.
So best take a branch from a yew.
Or if there is no other choice.
Tell the reason with a soft voice.

She was loved and praised by all of man.
Statues of her were raised by every clan.
Once every year they would build a throne.
And the villages she would be shown.

And a cloth would be draped over her.
Sometimes of wool, sometimes of fur.
She would be carried back to her lake.
And washed for her own sake.

Her life could not be better in a twist.
But there was something she missed.
She never got to be a mother.
This seems small for any other.

But for her this would be the dream.
It was an internal scream.
Till one day she heard a tale.
A method that would work without fail.

It was of her brother, the sun.
That is where the life begun.
She would need to ask him.
And she left in a whim.

The travel was full of danger.
But to that she was no stranger.
She continued, though it burned.
To hear the secret he had learned.

She went all the way to the core.
Through flames and fire she would soar.
In the core she found her brother.
He gave her the secret to be a mother.

And in the sun her twins were born.
Protection they were sworn.
Vry and Frieh were their names.
The twins born from the flames.

Vry was given control of the weather.
And as a king he wore a feather.
Frieh had the gift of love.
And reigned with beauty from above.

Never feel guilty for what you want.
Try to get it or it will haunt.
In your thoughts so give it a try.
To reach your own Frieh and Vry.

what? no i made it up

well yes of course it's your work. but I just ment the cultural inspirations behind it. the dirks are 6 identical blades found in different countries with no use in battle. ceremonial "magical" blades wich are probably the basis for all western european magical swords, like excalibur for example. and I thought you were playing around with that concept, wich maybe you were unknowingly.

oh yeah yeah ... i was, i figured the real hero is the one who forged it but it's not the weapon that makes you a hero but how you use it ,right? i figured to make of the man who forged who meant it for good.. with his promise for good from it

yeah, good way to go about it. It emphasises the sword as equally important as the wielder. Instead of just a hero who stumbles upon a macguffin.
Also, might I suggest that next time you write a story you avoid starting a sentence with the same word so much. Makes the story flow a bit more natural, and avoids making it look like a summary. Just some friendly advice.

Still got a ton lying around but I might as well throw another one on here for people to enjoy.

The branch man

There once was a creature, really shoddy.
Branches and sticks formed all of his body.
Stretched out and skinny he wobbled around.
By common ivy, his limbs were bound.

When he arrived, everyone disappeared.
Since after all, he looked very weird.
All of the forest was scared of him.
Especially when he moved, with a cracking limb.

This wretched creature, cursed by life.
Happiness was his only strife.
But nobody wanted him to be.
If he approached them, they pretended to not see.

But the branch man had an unusual gift.
Reading character was what he could do real swift.
He could find their place of pain.
And that suffering, he could drain.

When the blind man appeared, his life changed.
He no longer was estranged.
The man did not see his hideous form.
The sadness of the man brewed up a storm.

While he carefully picked it apart.
The man felt like he got a new start.
Life seemed much more promising now.
He thanked the branch man with a bow.

When the rest then heard of this news.
They swiftly stopped their abuse.
The branch man now had a role to fill.
He helped people with a mind that was ill.

Sometimes it takes a blind man.
To find those without a plan.
And show their hidden strengths.
looks don't go to all the lengths.

And share your pain by speaking.
Or it might come back sneaking.
Others problems will have some weight.
But It will be worth that faith.

You've already got good material, now its just finding an animator and a style of animation you want. I think with these sort of shorts, you will want to keep it short and simple, and release them as a single episodic. Try getting one down the pipe, and then start working on the others, you can then package it a short film release.

I have written a short book, composed of several fairy tales. And I had the idea that it would be interesting to make an illustration with every story, like you normally see in fairy tale books. My idea was to have several styles of art(drawings colour, black and white, digital, painted etc.) by various people. I'm going to be upfront about this, I am as good as broke. so payment won't bean option. I do however plan to try and publish it, so I will credit every drawing to their respective artist. I have no idea if that will succeed, but I will keep the artists in question notified on the progression.

The stories I have open now are:
1. 2 drawings of the fairy tale mother
2. The princess and the unicorn
3. The rabbit and the weasel
4. The dance of the nixies
5. A creature born from fire (firesalamander)
6. How to stop the dark elves
7. The lonely skin changer.
8. The white women
9. The moss queen
10. The feared spider
11. The swan mussel
12. The dance of the deer
13. The branch man
14. Nelda's(waterspirit) journey to the sun
15. The lullaby of the crow
16. The elves in the sky
17. The hedge fairies

I will adjust the list to open stories and PM you the story. If you want to switch after reading it, or not participate afterwards. That's fine. Thank you beforehand,

Clark Laws

There once lived lonely man
In the house on the top of the hill
His house was so far away from the town
That nobody ever saw him

But one day the lonely man felt lonely
And screamed from the top of his lungs
Still in the town far away from the house
Nobody could hear a word

So the man descend from the hill
And in the village he started talking to the air
But all the people passed him by
They could hear, but they simply didn't care

So the man once again started screaming
And finally a crowd grew near
And just when he was about to smile
They beat him out of his misery

And the lonely man returned home
Still feeling lonely at his heart
He couldn't quite get other people
He thought he was from a world apart

So the man kept living lonely
At the house in the top of the hill
And if someday you hear him shouting
Say hello, so he won't feel so ill
