★ 2016 ANIMATION CHALLENGE! ★ 2016-09-09 08:56:09

Hey all!
I'VE JUST ANNOUNCED THE THEME FOR THE 2016 DRAW WITH JAZZA ANIMATION CHALLENGE!

There's a cintiq, 3 intuos pro's and an intuos draw up for grabs plus Creative Cloud Subscriptions and more, the prizes are fucking insane! A compilation of the entries will be made for NG after the winners are announced.

Use this thread to share ideas and WIP's

DEADLINE:
September 26th 2016

THEME:
Participants must animate an expressive, silly and over-the-top looped walk cycle.

The animation must be 30 FPS (Frames Per Second), with the loop duration being a total of between 20-60 frames. The walk cycle may be looped several times, but the maximum duration of the final video must be a maximum of 1 minute long.

The walking character must be centered in the video and remain in place in full profile view, facing the left side of the frame. The character may be walking in an environment (cityscape, space station etc.) moving behind him, and the environment may include ambient animation, but must not contain any additional characters.

Entries will be judged on the animation quality and execution, the creativity of the walk and motion, its physicality, humor and visual appeal. Entries may be entirely tweened, frame by frame animated, or anything in between. 2D hand drawn stop motion animation (‘traditional’) is also allowed.

IMPORTANT:
To be eligible to enter PLEASE pay close attention to the instructions in the video above, and the submission instructions in this ‘How to Enter’ video.

The Challenge sounds great! @Jazza

There seems to be the same questions popping up on youtube. If you don't mind, any chance you could give us your thoughts on the following?

1. Addition of Color, Shading and drawing quality of lineart (eg, pencil line test art). Do these add to the way you judge the animation? Or is it on the movement only?

2. I seen you said to someone, a Walking stick is alright to add, however having the character add a ladder wouldn't be. What are the guidelines with adding additional objects for the character to carry. For instance, a character with a weapon to put the character into context, and possibly off balance their weight. What are the limitations here?

3. When you say Silly, is this an implication of exaggerated animation and not to go realistic, or are does this imply that it's way beyond that and to look bat-shit-crazy and bonkers? Or is it pretty much up to the creator, as long as it's cartoony.

Here's my current idea. I feel like the squash needs a bit more frames to show the impact but would like some tips on what else I need to improve before cleanup

Just started, this is my first ever submission to the COTM and also first animation ever. I wish everyone a good luck!

I hope there will be a smartass stretching the rules to the very maximum making something as much creative as possible, maybe even something unforeseen by the rules. Such as a giant character that occupies the whole screen, but while still fitting inside of it (since that's a rule). Some psychedelic colors. An invisible character too. Webcam for a face (Flash only) isn't allowed by the terms... Well, LET'S GO SMARTASSES. WRECK THE RULES. There must be something Jazza forgot to ban. Say, the viewers are seeing it from a carpet walk paparazzi camera. The character stretches his hand to try to cover the camera filming, the hand due to the proximity becomes very enlarged, covering most of the screen and leaving only some gaps that change with movement. And through those we can peek at the character still obeying the thousand rules that this has.

Making some character/prop designs. This is just one of the many ideas I have for the challenge. Good luck to all you guys!

Also, it's ok if my character is walking backwards right? As long as they are facing the left side of the screen?

I not have a drawing tablet, hopefully I have the mouse xD. but I still want to participate

I tried making a bg, but my animation program can only do static backgrounds and it looks weird when not moving

So if I were to do something where the character is walking backwards, would you want the har acted to still face left, or have the motion be to the left? This will be fun. Thanks for doing this!

No, I don't have it, too expensive!

The animation peg is made of wood, copied from an original plastic one.
I buy plain paper and I go to an animation school where they let me punch it.
The light table is a Huion A4 one, very simple and this one I had to buy it...

:P

I love it! If you add feathers falling off and leaving a trail that would put this over the top. A cycle within a cycle, if you will lol

I started working on my entry finally yesterday. We'll have to see how much I'll be able to crunch into the few days I have left to work on this. I'm fairly new to the hand drawn 2d but I want to try my skills in the open category anyway. I've been dreaming of a cintiq so I'm giving my all to make this count.

Animating for the first time in Manga studio 5 EX so this'll be rather interesting for that too.
My character is going to be a long haired and armless zombie demon thingy.
