Animation Jam Round 3: SOUNDS

Today begins ROUND 3 of our NG Summer Animation Jams series!

The theme for Round 3 is SOUNDS, specifically, these 30 sound effects by @ZStriefel.

You can animate ANYTHING you want but it has to use at least 20 of these sounds, all 30 for max amusement.

You are allowed to use music and voice acting in your animation but all sound effects must come from this set of 30.

Please use / create your own original characters for your animation, vs incorporating commercial / pop-culture / other peoples' characters.

To improve your odds of getting everything in there, we're giving you THREE WEEKS for this round. The deadline is Monday, August 1st at 3PM EST.

Tag your entry with "SoundJam" to be sure we find it.

Minimum length: 30 seconds.

Discuss your progress in this Animation Forum thread!

Not sure what is going on here?

We are having animation jams all summer long and you are welcome to join in at any time. Each round has ten winners who receive points (1-10 pts based on rank). At the end of the summer, we will declare a champion of animation for the summer.

If you missed a round, don't fret! Some of the top guys will miss a round (or more) this summer so you could still rank. Or just have fun with it!

Round 1: Loop Jam (Winners)
Round 2: Robot Jam

Happy animating!

Hmmm we'll go with a 30 second minimum like the last round. To fit all the sounds you will likely need more.

Is there a quick way of previewing the sounds without downloading the zip? I feel like downloading it im already committing to do it and i hate commitment.

We don't want any of this "just the tip" BS around here, Luis... You download that file and you MARRY IT.

Would it be seen as fair game that we can alter the sounds?
I imagine things like changing them to suit an ambience with reverb or echo are fine but I mean more along the lines of pitch shifting or reversing for some different effects?

Oh man... I'm leaning towards saying echo is ok... Pitch shifting feels like it's starting to stretch... Reverse or anything that changes the sound more dramatically might be getting too far from the spirit of the theme. Part of the fun comes from watching the final entries and noting all the familiar sounds.

Yeah and thats what the jams about isn't it, giving artists limitations and seeing waht they can pull off with it, anyway back to working out what i wanna do

Thanks, it's just with the variety of questions from the loop jam I thought stuff like this should be addressed for those curious of the idea sooner rather than later

@TomFulp I know this is probably a dumb question, but I wouldn't be able to use the symbols from either the Wingdings or Webdings font as characters, would I? I really want to use them for my potential Sound Jam entry, but I'm not so sure if I'm allowed to... and if I can't, can I at least draw them in my own style?

Coolibert theme, I'm getting back in this one!
Will be cool to experiment with and see if consistency can be achieved while using all 30 sounds.
Reminds me of the 'did you hear that sound' collabs :)

Can we edit these sound effects in any way or do we have to use them as is?

Bummer that I couldn't get anything together for the last challenge, I really wanted to tackle the idea I had. Here's to hoping one works out for me this time.

Not that I plan on animating anything ever again but thanks for the free samples. I'll have to remember to tag @ZStriefel if I ever use them in a song. On that note, I'm adding his alias to the file name and meta data. I have so many sample packs made by newgrounds users just labeled "newgrounds sample pack" and I'll never remember who made any of them.

Those sound effects are wack.

So use 20 unique sounds from the package... Got it

I'm happy to voice for people this round as well; however, please include a script and a deadline with your vox request so I can schedule! Playing PM tag is not fun, and I'll be recording for other projects.

I know for the robot day the audio portal had their own $100 winner, correct? So will there be any way for the audio people to have their own reward? I'm assuming not. But anyways, "Summer Jams" thing is really cool! I can't wait to see all the awesome content that will get pumped this summer! Thanks Tom!
