Thank you and good to hear! Looking back at my old art I can the gap too, but there are also some constants that never change haha! (not that this is a bad thing) 2012-14 was a rough spot for me as a self-taught loner, but working professionally with some great artists and mentors really helped.

Been developing a world and story around these characters for some time now and have the first three chapters of a comic roughed out, but I still gotta ink them.. digitally, of course.

Lago (middle)

Female member of a monstrous species that can transform their tails. Lago is an adventurous spirit who practices both martial and culinary arts, best described as a lightsaber-wielding cook. On a recovering post-human Earth, Lago and her crew find themselves at the helm of an ambitious space exploration operation to gather knowledge and locate the rest of her elusive species - who have gone missing in space when she was little.

Emil (left)

A male member of a racoon-like species and Lagos stepbrother. Him and Lago have been inseperable since childhood and form a competent duo that covers each others weaknesses very well. While Lago steps up to defend their lifes directly, Emil runs things in the background and is the glue that keeps their operations and crew together.

Like most of his kin, he is very meticulous in his work and often pulls all-nighters for his research, only to wake up to the scent of Lagos cooking.

These two pieces are basically the same idea of portraying my main characters, a threat and an antagonist, but executed with completely different vibes..

Lago has trouble with certain yoga poses.

I guess this qualifies as an exercise..

Slightly older muscle anatomy practice. The abs isn't perfect, but I'm getting there! Main issue here seems to be that the abdominal muscles look too flat because I hadn't figured out how to better imply volume from a straight frontal perspective - can't just stick six potatoes there and call it a day.

Some of my first screentone tests. I toyed with the idea of making Lagos hair solid black but it just looked too shiny, I imagine her hair and tail to have more of a dry texture if that makes any sense.

Some Wakfu class avatars I did for a forum contest a while back, featuring the Ecaflip gambling class and the Pandawa.. alcoholic class. The two female variants got winning placements and actually got included in the library of selectable avatars on the official Wakfu forums, pretty neat!

Very messy, lots of perspective to fix here but I like this as a halfway point!

I thought about signature weapons for the different species in my universe to flesh them out further and the Danza ended up with shovel spears, due to their natural inclination towards agility, infiltration and salvaging. A weapon that doubles as a tool suits them perfectly.

Art Portal Version

December is a strange month for art, I'm both productive and wind down to evaluate my progress. During this time I like to retreat into my comfort work, which is updating character reference sheets and adding new outfits that are needed for certain parts of Lagos story. I also finally bit the bullet and made her hair solid black for the black & white style, it just stands out better from her dark clothing.

This isn't her entire wardrobe, the amount of outfit pieces she has could easily fill up one of those old flash dress-up games.

Had to postpone this Lago a bit but I'm finally at it again. However, now I have trouble deciding on mouth 1 or 2. I'll probably switch back and forth between them depending on my mood, until she's finished.

Man this took a while, Lago was done for weeks but I couldn't settle on a background composition, plus some other irl distractions. In the end I made two versions.. which one is better? I don't care anymore, I like both!

Why.. why did I draw this panel like this.. I can't look at it without my brain autoplaying the cutscene in my head..

Finished. I felt like giving Lago a new set of clothes for jogging in the cold morning! She's not a particularly fast runner, but that's not the point anyways..

This thread is like seeing a butterfly emerge from a cocoon.

A process that is both disgusting and beautiful, perfect analogy for the artistic journey.

To follow up on that sketch, here's the final character design for this fluffball.

The black dress from Sif's beta design was kept as a centerpiece and everything else from hair, shapes to final color palette developed around that. Her eyepatch used to be purely cosmetic, but as her backstory developed, so did her unfortunate eye situation..
