How much longer until we can start hearing something about Windows 9?

Fuck. I just upgraded and I was happy with my Windows 8.1
I guess I'll pretty much have to go back to Windows 8 then... Are there any other options (I'm not going to buy a new computer and get a mac, so off with you)? I didn't really get the whole article? Are they going to do something instead of Windows 8.1 (before 9, I mean)?

They are dropping security updates for Windows 8.1 and only giving them to 'Windows 8.1 Update'. They don't want you to downgrade.

You didn't read the article did you? This states that 8.1 users have to update to "Windows 8.1 update" to continue getting patches for security fixes.
It's essentially windows 8.2. This doesn't mean that 8.1 users need an entirely new OS. It's just a forced migration to a service pack.
If you have genuine windows why would you update it ? 2 minutes of your life

Hopefully soon. If it's better than 8 I'm going to skip over that and get 9 when/if I need to get a new computer or if I get a laptop.

Lets see...I'll be leaping over Vista, 7, and 8. I'll scope out 9 from afar as it develops, because I think my Windows XP has enough life in it to even survive until Windows 10...I hope they get extreme with their marketing by then to call it "WINDOWS X"

My unfounded hate for Windows 8 and most tablet/smartphones is just consuming me. The fact that 8.1 is getting abandoned makes me feel good.

I just installed the new update on my home laptop, and the biggest thing I noticed is the store app pinned to the taskbar.
I bet it'll be the same thing for Windows 8.1 Pro on my work computer.
