Lets Make An Epic Cd 2012-07-21 23:40:45

Lets just put it quick in the start: U wont get paid for this work, sorry, but leave this if you are greedy.

As some knows here, i run ObscureGood Records online, a unprofit production music "company" that creates electronic music and make albums that feature some music from newgrounds artists that has accepted to participate. On the image you see the first album released and that we actually did work together with some of you.
This is a one-man company and it is very hard and boring to make music and music that is good.
Therefore i seek others that can make epic trailer music and or cinematic percussion melodies for creative common visual products to be made. I give albums that includes music that other people can use in their visual medias that are not commercial or profit.

THE PLAN:
My planned album is called Creative Commons Soundtracks v1: Orchestral Percussion Horror & Electronics.
And i need you all here to help if u want.

In this album we are going to focus on making two different sorts of music. And all melodies HAS to be CINEMATIC.
THIS IS NOT MUSIC FOR TRAILERS, THIS IS FOR REAL MOVIES AND GAMES that people can use OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN THEIR MEDIA
AS LONG AS THEIR WORK IS NON-PROFIT!

With "Orchestral Percussions" i mean drums that sounds unfake by adding echoes and using drums that are not considered to be very "electric" (DJ, Dance, Club etc). They MUST be UNFAKE!

By "Percussion Horrors" i mean that these melodies has to not be just unfake. These are the melodies you need to have ONE thing in mind: this is for the scene where the ghost is chasing the innocent girl for example.
These sorts of melodies i often call "ACTION MELODIES WITH SCARY STRINGS OR FX IN THE BACKROUND".

Then we have the "Electronics" wich means simply DRONES AND AMBIENTIC TENSION AND UNCOMFORTABILITY.
That is what YOU folks going for this, have to make.

HOW DO I START/GIVE IT TO YOU (me)?:

1: Tell me HERE that you ACCEPT this work

2: MAKE THE MUSIC

3: Tell me HERE or in a PERSONAL MESSAGE (on newgrounds) WHEN IT IS DONE!

4: Post your melody HERE ON NGs OR SEND IT TO ME IN MAIL (sondredra@live.no)

5: I will pick up the songs, arrange and put together the album and publish it then tell you its done.

WHERE DOES THIS MUSIC GO?
It will be published as a album-playlist on Youtube and maybe later on sites like Jamendo.com, Artistserver etc etc let me handle that
You will get updated and noted. The album will read clearly that the music is for non-profit products!

HOW DO WE CREDIT EACH OTHER?
Here, under my orders, WE STAND TOGETHER AS FAMILY! I credit YOU and vice versa! One-way offer is UNACCEPTABLE!

I credit YOU with a OFFICIAL PUBLIC THANKS and by MENTIONING YOUR NAMES in the credits!

You thank me by making the music and by REMEMBERING THIS:
Its important for you to remember that the melodies you will make belongs and is DEDICATED and MEANT to THE ALBUM,
it is NOT A SEPERATE MELODY!!! But it is COPYRIGHTED TO YOU AS ALWAYS AND USUAL.

In other words: you didnt make a melody, you have worked for ObscureGood Records (and been treated well lol)

INSPIRATION FOR THE "PERCUSSION HORROR MELODIES"

"Attendant Kills Lacey" from Splinter soundtrack by Elia Cmiral (action orientated)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXmW0K6-L10 moment from 1:03 to 1:28 (focus less on action)

TELL ME IF YOU WANT THIS

Ahem, right, well... as an entertainment lawyer, let me begin by picking apart your post.

So... wanting to get paid for the work you do is greed? Well, better tell that to everyone who ever has, does, or will hold a job, then.

As some knows here, i run ObscureGood Records online, a unprofit production music "company" that creates electronic music and make albums that feature some music from newgrounds artists that has accepted to participate.

The problem is that you cannot have a production music company that is actually non-profit. The whole idea behind production music is that it's licensed for use in film or video game trailers, films or video games themselves, television programmes, advertising campaigns, etc. -- anything that is fully commercialised.

"Real" movies and games? As opposed to fake movies? But by "real" movies, one would assume you mean a movie by a semi-professional indie studio or backed by an old-school major studio. And either of those are going to be commercial in nature at one point or another: DVD distribution? That's commercial. Winning a prize at a film festival? Well, technically it's in the realm of commercial. Uploaded to a site where ad revenue is shared with the author? Again, that's now in the realm of commercial.

With "Orchestral Percussions" i mean drums that sounds unfake by adding echoes and using drums that are not considered to be very "electric" (DJ, Dance, Club etc). They MUST be UNFAKE!

Your choice of words are very... interesting. "Unfake," I suppose, must be different from "real," otherwise you would have said 'real.' Perhaps 'acoustic' is the word you're looking for, as opposed to electronic drum kits.

So, basically, what you're describing is epic trailer music. Like Two Steps From Hell or E.S. Posthumus. But that would conflict with the "no trailers" thing you stated earlier.

Then we have the "Electronics" wich means simply DRONES AND AMBIENTIC TENSION AND UNCOMFORTABILITY.
That is what YOU folks going for this, have to make.

...I think you mean "ambient" and "tension." To be honest, you're not really making this sound very appealing to anyone working even semi-professionally.

WHERE DOES THIS MUSIC GO?
It will be published as a album-playlist on Youtube and maybe later on sites like Jamendo.com, Artistserver etc etc let me handle that
You will get updated and noted. The album will read clearly that the music is for non-profit products!

Non-profit, right. So what happens with any YouTube ad revenue? Or if you get a YouTube Partnership? This isn't planned out very well, because by releasing non-commercial tracks that you have a non-commercial license to on sites that have potential to make your use commercial, you're inherently breaking your own licensing terms.

it is NOT A SEPERATE MELODY!!! But it is COPYRIGHTED TO YOU AS ALWAYS AND USUAL.

In other words: you didnt make a melody, you have worked for ObscureGood Records (and been treated well lol)

Again, we have two completely conflicting statements. Your first comment here states that the original artist retains copyright, however, your second comment states quite clearly that the artist does NOT retain authorship ("you fifn'y make a melody, you have worked for ObscureGood Records"), which would place this under "Work-Made-For-Hire," in which case all copyright ownership would transfer to ObscureGood Records.

My advice to you would be to take a little time, get your thoughts and ideas straightened out, and maybe get some advice from anyone you know who works in music or contract law. Because at this present moment, your idea - as well-meaning and good-natured as it looks to be - is a mess of discrepancy.

However, I wish you all the best in this endeavor.

Sorry, just to clarify here - I'm not an entertainment lawyer, I'm a law student.

(I wish I was already a practicing lawyer - then I wouldn't have to sit through a bunch more years of costly education!)

Can I use a piece I already made? I have two really nice ambient songs on Newgrounds but they are loops. Do you have a minimum time for these like only 30 seconds and up or what?

If explaining how and why your people's posts on the forums are contrived, confusing, or just legally ill-informed makes me a douche, then, yup, I guess I'm the biggest douche on the audio forums.

Aspergers? clearly that excuses everything.

Also, you don't seem to know the meaning of the word "Hypocrisy"

Just cut the drama and chill man

RampantMusic is just giving you advice and I agree with him. You need to keep things a little more organized and have stuff prepared for any negative repercussions your project may have due to the lack of knowledge on that field of work.

I know that excitement we got when we start a new project and sometimes that excitement doesn't let us think us right. We miss vital points on our criteria that we will notice them later and will affect us if we don't fix them or have any backup for it.

But in the end , It's your project and you can do pretty much whatever you want.

Cheers

Music is my passion , not my business.

Personally I really could care less... only reason why I'm saying anything is because you made an annoying spam post in my groups thread for no fucking reason, for something completely irrelevant. Also the "greedy" remark is a little annoying on account of a number of us try to make money with music, and we're poor as all hell, so calling any of us greedy is far from true.

But yeah, good luck with your project though....

I agree.

Think out your thread a little harder before you post next time please. And don't freak out the second someone offers you some helpful advice.
