I recently stumbled upon a canned game in the Flash Portal, called Doras Bike.
This game is similar to Newgrounds legends such as Mario Bike and Pokemon Bike Adventure, but don't let that fool you, this game brings many new and exciting features to the table.
Now, you begin the game with a rather short introduction that features Dora the Explorer swinging on a rope. Her never ending smile implies that she is very happy to be featured in this game. The preloader itself will stare into your soul as you wait for the bar to fill.
The game gives you three options at the main menu. Start a new game, play more games, or get free games for your site. That's right, the people who made this game are so nice that they even offer to make more, just for free! How nice of them.
Now, this is where the fun begins. Press the New Game button. You will be greeted with a How-To in the background. The game is easy to play, sort of similar to Happy Wheels, but don't let this fool you, as much as you would want to fire a harpoon through Dora's head, or throw her monkey into a pit of spikes, this game won't let you. In fact, there's no way to damage Dora at all! Isn't that wonderful?
The game graces you with the option to turn off the sound, but why would you? The music is excellent. It repeats itself, but you can never get tired of that dumb jingle.
There's also a restart button, but you only need that if you get stuck. There's simply no other way to fail a level!
Dora is completely invulnerable to any damage, and she shows this off by not wearing a helmet. You can land on her head and all she will do is look at you and smile. That's right, this game breaks the fourth wall.
The level ends when you go off the screen to the right. Presumably, Dora reaches her destination. The next level starts after you get scored.
After about five or so levels, with the same exact background, the game ends. Now, this is confusing. The author clearly states that "Dora The Explorer is off out for a ride on her bike as she has another adventure out though the different places around her world, she needs your help and wants you to join in the fun!"
But! The different places do not exist. It's all the same texture. This is a metaphor for what is surely hell. Even her monkey, a demon in its own right, never stops smiling.
The game features a couple of very new sound effects! If you pick up a flower, you get the Mario coin sound! I have no idea why a flower would ding, but who cares? When you pull off a trick, the Mario 1-up sound plays!
Who could resist such a great game? This will surely replace Toss the Turtle and Happy Wheels in the Pantheon of Classic Newgrounds Games.
When I have children, I will be able to let them use Newgrounds safely knowing that they will be able to play games like this.
