Maybe because it is funny, and most modern movies cannot compare. It was original (as far as I know), and it didn't shove jokes down you're throat. that cannot be said for most movies these days.
It isn't the best movie ever but it's a classic , and it is really popular because of all the merchandise , games and cartoon series
What I don't understand is why The Godfather is so popular. I guess I can see that the actors were great, but I was bored to tears the entire time.
Because it not only reached people then, but it reaches people now.
I myself don't find it funny, but I find it a very enjoyable movie to watch.

There is nothing artistic or masterful about The Room, but you have to admit, Tommy Wiseau is a very outstandingly bad actor, and is therefore outstanding.

i saw that movie for the first time when i was 7 or 8 yerars old... So it has nostalgic value for me and i also think its funny... when you get older younger kids are going to laugh at you for your tastes as well.. remember that.
