My Advanced Painting teacher told the class to make a postmodernist painting.

None of us knew what the hell it was. From the sound of it, I thought correctly that it was a style in the same way that kingdom Monera is single cellular.

It was. The teacher loosened the definition to "painting on a built up canvas", and it had to be "nonobjective".

All the nonobjective IRL painting I've seen is indiscernible shit. I didn't like that, so I did this and got told that although this was postmodern, it was too objective.

So I took this home, not really finished (I didn't paint under the tongue) and did something else.

Boo.

Meh, it's been some time. Might as well upload some semi new and old shit.

This guy's silhouette sort of tapers.

Concept.

The legs look odd to me.

Also, what is its sex?

Gender-Ambiguous characters - for some reason, whenever I look at them I smile. Anyway, I would suggest trying out different poses - dynamic, whatever, just trying to put your character in different, more interesting positions then just standing stoically with their feet planted firmly on the floor. If you're stuck as for ideas for poses, try referencing them - no shame in it and it really helps. And by reference, I mean use Posemaniacs.

Yeah, that.

I've actually done things other than conceptual character depiction, but the thing is that I usually don't like them, so I don't post them.

I guess this one's reasonable by my terms. It refused to scan right.

I really should get to that. When I'm not doing character sheet-esque drawings for concept characters. Maybe I'll do one later. Like soon later.

I've been going back and redoing some old drawings so I feel better about them. This is one I didn't finish or post here.

Yeah, I'll get to doing some life drawings. Probably within this decade.

Points if you can guess which game this is from.

Hint: It's a flash game.

Also, I can't decide what I want to do for a background.

Yes, I'm aware that part of the Gaia Axe looks like a dong. I never used it when I was playing the game, so I never noticed till now.

I would say its female, but i would change it around so it has some breast just to improve the point. Plus the scarf looks like it cut the face in half rather than it being on the face.

Thanks.

The next 10 images will be from an artist book I did for an art class. They're all odd creatures. I wrote some flavor text to go with them; I'll post links to that later.

For now, first one.

The Hell Jelly

This was my first; it's messier than the rest.

# 2 - Toadskulls

My scanner hated this one. It cut off the top a lot. I'll try to fix it later.

Probably the cleanest one. It's not the third one that I drew, however, it's just third in the book right now.

I really like the texture in these drawings, it works out awesome with your coloring.

Fairly old by this point in time.

Maybe a month? I can't remember.
Also, I neglected to finish the feet. I need to practice those more than practicing hands, I think.

Thanks, it was actually the first time I was seriously using pastels.

Chalk pastels, in case it matters.

My scanner turned its nose up at me after I scanned this. I had more I wanted to stick up, but I'd rather just wait for the scanner to stop having a fit than pick up a camera.

Because the new camera is a pain in the ass to transfer images from.

Part of a series of "classes". You know, video game shit.
I asked a couple of friends how I should dress the warrior class. Immediately one said "fur bikini".

I deviated a bit.

Again, hands and feet not too well defined. I think I should just draw wrists and fingers for a bit.

Very nice work Felis. You've improved a lot.
As I was scrolling down this page, viewing all of your art over the last 3 or so minths, I saw the cow-girl one. Random: Does it sa "milk" on the blade? xD It kinda looks like it.

Yeah, it says it in Druidic runes.

Or, at least, whatever Ultima uses if it's not that.

Yo Felis, good to see you submitting lots of art! lots of ideas!

The main problem i see with your work is that it all seems so tense, like the characters are propped up against a board.

what you need to do is loosen up. you dont need everything clearly visible to have a good picture, as usually it is what isnt visible and other tricks of the eye that draw people into art.

Don't be afraid to turn your characters around, flip them, push them off a cliff, in front of a train, and so on! its not like they can't fend for themselves, right?
