Mash your brains and breathe for breakfast

Call my heart it ain't too far

Christening of self digression

You've been lost, come home

In the calm of hopeful harbor

These ships have sailed

Sitting at a break of culture

And you're aware

Life has been to close to call

Keep your eyes closed at least

This calm's been moving on

And the storm ain't far, I see

In your break

Keep your mind in order

Further from the brink of love

Keep your faith in focus

Free yourself

It don't seem so lovely

We waited for you since a broken Monday

Name that phase of moon in dark

Dream awake in the morning hour

This train it found you in your sleep

Called your number, heavens been and

It don't seem to far

Dream awakened to a draw

A no name face

But still looking for my dreams

I brought it back

I've been weak

I can't intervene

I need nicotine and I need hope

I've been falling home

Been awake, a Midwest woe

Mash your brains and breathe for breakfast

Call my heart it ain't too far

Christening of self digression

You've been lost, come home

In the calm of hopeful harbor

These ships have sailed

Sitting at a break of culture

And you're aware

Life has been to close to call

Keep your eyes closed, at least

This calm has been moving on

And the storm ain't far I see

In your break

Keep your mind in order

Further from the brink of love

Keep your faith in focus

Free yourself

So soulful, so smooth, a reverberating sound with vibrant brass in the background and lyricism with depth, though cryptic... I imagine a ship of slaves, sailing away, seeking freedom in an old world with little acceptance, notions of safe haven, harbor, and sailing away in the lyrics maybe lead me that way, and a voice that sounds like a portal to old and painful times... I may be totally off the trail; maybe this means something different entirely; maybe nothing at all; maybe whatever you want it to... but it's powerful.

The percussion seems to trip up occasionally, which is maybe intentional but if there's anything I'd like differently here it might be that, the seemingly off-sync shuffles now and then distract a little, otherwise it's so good. It builds up nicely towards the end, laid back pace but so much force and feeling in the music... and the trumpets add a lot! The mix is so rich too.

Soul. Great work.

thanks for your review devil. it has been very inspiring.

Great song. I really like the mood on this one. The vocals and the trumpet are really the best. The other instruments form a perfect foundation of the song. I like how they form a mellow blanket, staying in the background, but you can hear a lot of interesting things are going on. That pitched snare effect at 2:26 for example. Those spooky synths and old sounding piano. Very enigmatic. Very good build up. All instruments work well together and support the structure never demanding too much attention to themselves.

MyMonkeyMyCircus responds:

Thanks for the review. My current thinking is that the other instruments might be too far back in the mix. It's rather fuzzy. I am happy I was able to get everything fitting at a nice balance, it was tough.

Fucking beautiful, really. The blending of these genres went fantastically. The vocals are strong and emotional, the synths are not too overbearing, the trumpet's not taking the show for itself, the drums are just keeping pace, the piano's playing beautifully under it all and I love it. Grand fucking work you guys.

MyMonkeyMyCircus responds:

Thanks man we appreciate it

this is probably the coolest song I have ever heard and I found it right here on newgrounds

love this sound, it's so calming.

MyMonkeyMyCircus responds:

thx Schatten that's what we're trying to do
