Android City 101

iu_145586_4346690.jpgWhen creating this, I was kind of picturing walking though a smog and neon filled cyber punk city, with Androids in all shapes and sizes (like humans) going about their business. The closer you get to the center, the crazier it gets!

I found this thru a youtube channel called Heavenly Music.. Ima say i really love the depth in this song :O
I've tried to make one of my own recently... but im blown away how good everything sounds from drumfills to it making my head bob xD...

Mind if i ask you how do you obtain the analog sounds... do you just use somthing like serum for everything? even bells? cuz this is still new to me.. i really wish to explore other genres

Ditchy responds:

Thank you mate - really appreciate the love and feedback :D

I used 2 programs. Flex (comes with FL Studio) and Sylenth1 (usually for Dance music, but you can really tweak it to make your own synths) which I paid for over year ago using monthly installments through the company site. There is also something called Dexed which ive not long discovered about and its amazing for a free VST. Based off the old YMDX7 etc and really brings out the 80s sounds, including the Megadrives chipset YM2612! I would recommend looking at that and messing about with it - I would have used it more if I would have known sooner.

All that aside - Visualizing the soundtrack to something inspired the progression and melody (i.e. Android City in a Cyberpunk type future).

Overall awesome vibes and composition really digging it.

@ 0:36 does a note hit wrong? or was it intentional dissonance?

@1:21 nice pan on the drum fills!

Awesome way to change it up for the second chorus, song sounds like a slightly less energetic Hotline Miami song.

nice work and rock on man

Ditchy responds:

Awesome review!

Yeah 0.36 mark was intentional...i was going for a slightly offset tone like to give it a malfunctioning, slightly out of tone feel before it kicked in. I thought it sounded ok, but come to think of it now, with a good set of ears, this may sound out place to some people.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Wow, this track really captures the grit of cyberpunk! The punch and power of the kick and the way you sidechain it gets me grooving like no other synthwave track has, and the leads and the rhythm feel so hypnotic too. I like how you did a momentary pause during the second climax; it's little unexpected things like this that keep listeners tuned in. While I definitely noticed the lead I feel like the low end is a little lacking in terms of bass, but other than that this track is stellar!

A lot of depth to this track, cool background and slammin beats. :)

Ditchy responds:

Thank you very much! :)

You've certainly nailed the sound of a retro-futuristic cyberpunk-themed city. To me this piece feels like it should be played at night while sneaking around trying to avoid the dystopian city's guards. Think cyberpunk espionage with a hint of danger and a degree of unfamiliarity.

Sounds to me like you got what you wanted to come across clearly. No notes. Great job! :)
