When It Just Doesn't Work

This is a blend between pop, orchestral cinematic and EDM. It has some live piano on it as well as solo. It is a very different arrangement than I would usually do. I am trying to knock smoking tobacco on the head which I have got down to six a day (from too much to think about).

I don't like being consistently reminded what I may or may have not done in the past, but will always have that image to my family and friends.

Lyrics:

This really doesn’t work anymore,

I choose this path and I hit the floor,

Trying to go on track is a hard thing to do,

I’ll start by being clean, much cleaner than you,

It took over everything and my whole life,

I lost so many friends and caused so much strife,

Now I’m in a better condition,

To live and move forward is my only mission,

I secretly wanted to be free,

But my mind took over and wouldn’t let me be,

I could have done so much instead of my past,

Like buying new equipment, and had a studio fast,

I tell you this story in a new light,

A new vision; which started during the night,

The past two months of isolation made me realise,

This turmoil caused and my final good bye

This was composed, arranged, mixed and kind of mastered by me.

P.S: I hate shakers.

Edit 1: Lyrics,

Edit 2: Updated to Cinematic,

Edit 3: Updated audio to suggestions received,

Edit 4: Updated master track (High-mid attenuation),

Edit 5: Bass level increased. (no longer sounds good on my mobile, which I always avoid on this platform as not everyone has 2.1 setups, or semi-pro monitor setups. This platform is going in the direction of using mobiles and tablets and always bring that in to consideration when I mix and master my work...but I am dealing with different headphones, away from my flat and studio setup, so given some time I will work on a better master).

Next edit will be done back in Brighton on my monitoring system as I can't be dealing with trying to master on the Senheisser HD300 Pro's as they are to new, and is a massive no no as you should always mix on decent studio monitors like Yamaha, KRK, Generlic or Adam's.

OMG!!! I'm so sad to hear this. I loved his earlier Euro-Beat compositions, which were very unique. He was damn good at Euro-Beat!! :) So sad to lose him. My deepest sympathies to those that were near and dear to him.

"Sadly Maxxpump or Stuart Wright died May 16th 2020 due to a heart attack from complications from Covid. He was 32 years old with an undiagnosed heart problem. His heart was too weak to withstand being that ill.

He leaves a partner of 11 years and family and friends behind. Along with hundreds of songs.

Thank you for his years of support, he loved this site and it made his music making more meaningful. Producing music was his main enjoyment in life, he also enjoyed woodworking, blacksmithing, foraging, and traveling.

Love and live life to the fullest."

UPDATE:

It's nice to see you added the lyrics.

Regarding your voice, it's not that the lyrics are unintelligible, they are just a bit buried in the mix.

I understand the tendency to hate on compression. I used to never compress my music. Now I realize a little compression goes a long way, especially if properly implemented. As it is, I stand by what I said about it being a little too quiet IMO.

As for the genre, I'd go with either Dance or Cinematic, since it has a slight Disco feel to it.

Just to clarify, my rating and review process for this song doesn't have anything to do with whether or not I like the song. It has much more to do with how clear the intent comes across in the music being reviewed. Check the link at the bottom of my review to see my post about my personal review criteria.

Original 3 star review:

"A couple of things to note:
The mixing could stand some compression/limiting and/or normalization to boost the volume
so the listener doesn't have to change the volume just for this song.

Normally instrument timing wouldn't be an issue except the piano is played so out of time in certain moments that it distracts from the intent of the song.

I would appreciate it if you wrote the lyrics in the description. it could help get the message across more clearly and make the piece more relatable.

I'm not sure why this was labeled Brit Pop, and would like to know why you chose that genre.

Overall, not bad.

maxxpump responds:

I normalised the track at -6dB when it was bounced down and I bought it back up to 0dB when i converted it to MP3. I personally think I may re-track the vocals when I get access to my studio again. I think the mix was off when the electric drums kicked in and i will be more mindful of the volume over the duration of the track.

Also the shaker threw me off with the piano part in the beginning, but I left it in to add some movement.

The lyrics have been added, sorry if you don't understand as I have a communication problem and am on sedatives to help with anxiety. I'm in no means a professional singer or professional musician. I occasionally get it right but sometimes I miss the mark. I hate compression, especially in software. I'm used to using my Behringer T1950 valve/tube compressor, but sadly don't have access to it.

I will look at changing the mix so it is more broader. But it always seems to sound better on other platforms than this one.

Thanks for the somewhat positive vibe. By the way what genre would you have put this in?
