This is a soliloquy from my character in a DND campaign I've been in for quite some time. His backstory has recently come heavily into play and the DM has done a wonderful job of hitting critically on the emotions.
Short backstory: My character is a shape shifter who came from Russian roots, growing up with his brother Jeremy on a rural farm outside of Chicago, cared for by their grandparents. The full fate of their birth parents is unknown, although it has been clarified that war was likely a cause for their disappearance/death. My character (and myself honestly) was not prepared to face the past when he was suddenly thrown back in time for just the briefest of time to experience lost memories.
