NGADM Semifinals
Sounds Amazing , great job :)
This is an official NGADM '19 Review
Composition:
Personally between you and LSD this round, you guys have had the more emotional writing. Compositionally this piece was really solid. Everything you did with how you controlled the main theme, and every other detail you added, really helped sell the atmosphere to the song. On top of that it did not feel like a cliché trailer piece IMO.
Production and Sound Design:
The balancing could be a little better I think, and particularly at the climax. It didn't feel solid and well rounded (and I think I notice some over compression happening too). And the earlier sections feel like they're too quiet. However, the sounds you picked and how you designed the reverse notes was really good. The first minute was purely delicious.
Structure:
I really liked the "flow" of the song. There's a really good contrast between the energy you at the beginning, and then the climax really opens up and becomes huge. Really adds to the dynamics of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed it
Emotion / Conclusion:
Good work, I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hey thanks for the review! :D This is another on of my entries that was kind of rushed out, so I'm definitely going to go back to rewrite/re-mix a bunch of stuff. Thanks for all the great advice though!
This is an official Semi-Final review for the NGADM.
Composition: I like the way this song is composed, with my only nitpick being that I feel like there should have been a suspended cymbal or two thrown in (ex. 2:17) to help in transitions. The chords, though, are really neat and fit well in minor pieces.
Production: This is really well produced. I can hear the bass and the treble evenly, as well as distinguish the melody from accompaniment. The effects were also placed very well throughout the piece.
Sound Design: This is what I feel is your weakest point here. Your strings and brass sound really good, yes, but there's a few instruments that I will point out that could have been improved: the voice at around 0:35 was a little too much "eh" (compared to "ah") for the section; the piano at 0:47 feels really dead and could use some reverb to make it sound lifelike; the electric guitar at 1:24 could be more articulate; and the brass at 2:20 that stick out from the others sound too bright for the section.
Creativity: There's some of it in here, but I can tell it was heavily inspired from what is put out today in Hollywood trailers. Feel free to go against the grain here if you want to continue on the Cinematic route.
Replay: Other than the few sounds, I will admit I replayed this a time or two. It's good to listen to and it's energizing, which help to play into that.
Overall: This is a really good piece! If you fix up the issues within your instruments, that will help to really make this a masterpiece. Good luck in the final round of NGADM!
I like the reverse pianos at the beginning and the gradual swell of the atmosphere into :14. The texture is quite rich, and the overall tone of the piece rather soothing and warm. There isn’t a strong sense of development for the first half or so, but the sound design and trance-like style help make up for that. I think there are some sudden entrances and shifts in the instrumental palette that detract from the flow of the piece, like at 1:34. Overall, the arrangement is pretty choppy here at times, and I would’ve liked to hear a more gradual climax into the more dramatic part at 2:03. The tempo change at 2:20 was a nice touch, though. I think the mix is a bit dry at times, especially towards the beginning, and could also use more bass to maximize the impact of the final climax. I like the dreamy outro, but I’m also not sure how to weave the narrative of the piece together between the sudden changes in mood here. In my estimation, the main problem with the piece is the somewhat disjointed structure. Everything else is truly a minor complaint, and you know I love your cinematic flair, sound design, phrasing and dynamics work, and melody-writing. Keep it up, CloakedSoup! ^^
