SunVox Session #2 [Experimental Techno]

Hello, everyone. At the moment, composing music is not my priority, as I have more important things that need to be done with my time. However, in order to provide a constant stream of audio to my followers, I have decided to begin uploading some of my miscellaneous SunVox projects to Newgrounds.

This song is an experimental techno song. Everything that you can hear in this song was created using random numbers.

If you would like a project file, I can provide it for you; just message me via any of my social media accounts. I may decide to upload this to the WarmPlace.ru forum, but I tend to procrastinate in making my output public.

Fun fact: In this song, the probability that a kick drum is on a quarter note beat is 7/8. For the other 12 beats, the probability is 1/8. This means that there are 65536 possible kick drum patterns within a single measure!

Another fun fact: In the time it takes you to listen to this song (five minutes), the Earth will have travelled almost exactly nine thousand kilometres in its orbit around the Sun.

Constructive criticism is encouraged, as it helps me improve my musical abilities!

Pretty stuff

I'd definitely tone down the overtones on the 'main' synth. Cutting some of the super high overtones will make it a lot easier on the ears. The kick seems to be interfering with the entire track, creating an unintended and uncontrolled sidechaining effect, which messes with the acting bass and the wind tunnel noises. As far as melodies go, it's definitely interesting, gives a spooky feel. I think changing at least something up sometime in the song will give it direction and motion, whether that be chord progression, melody, synth used, intensity, or just some effects. At the moment the entire song seems a bit stagnate. Overall it's an interesting concept, but needs a lot of mixing work done and some kind growth or development throughout the song.

acheney responds:

Thank you for your review! The sidechaining effect was actually intentional. I suppose that this piece could have used some more progression, but I do like the way it sounds now, so I may not change what I have here right now. This was really an experiment in making generative music, and I would say that it succeeded. Thank you for your review!
