Beware of this mech, if you get anywhere near it, it'll blast you to bits!

I had a lot of fun making this, I'm finally making the music that I want to make, guess my 5 years of making music weren't for nothing :P

I think the idea you start off with is very good. It's got this nice, almost slightly sad undertone to it and I like the idea of using that really machine-like harsh sounding synth to evoke the mech aspect. I really enjoyed the sudden addition of the piano at the end, and wish that part had come earlier so I could have gotten more into it.

What I miss from this track is the dynamic range. Everything sounds uniform in terms of loudness and very two-dimensional. I think the repetitive composition itself could be fine on its own if there was more depth to the production so that I would feel more immersed in this environment. If the sound and the way it's produced is interesting, it'll be worth repeating those same ideas throughout, regardless of whether there is a "melody" or not.

The track doesn't seem that aggressive for the art it was inspired by and the description, but I think the overall continuum is quite fun and I'm glad you had fun making the music that you want to make. That's the most important part of all.

As a side note: I love the subtle introduction of the lower ends at 1:35. I think if you made more of those subtle changes throughout, it can change the soundscape in very interesting ways.

TheFantasticZ responds:

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm looking forward to future AIMS.

--Official AIM review--

This is strange close to being very good at times. You have a lot of very interesting ideas , and the mixing is decent. I really love those low sub-harmonies you got going on. it's easy to drown out the mix when harmonizing at such low frequencies, but it sounded very well done to me.

It does get very repetitive after as there's never any real change in dynamics. The entire track is pretty flat without any highs or lows. There's also no proper structure as the melody keeps changing completely in each section without much coherency between. There wasn't really any main theme melody to latch onto. The melodies themselves are interesting at times, but they're not very memorable.
Also, don't be afraid of using reverb and delays to make your sound fuller. It sounds very dry at the moment.

Overall it was interesting and I liked the ideas, but I think the composition and arrangement could use some work.

TheFantasticZ responds:

Aighty, thanks for the tips, even though it's only been a month, I've been steadily improving ever since I released this track, I'm looking forward to the next AIM.

Pretty good... Although the mix felt "flat" or "dry" to me, for lack of a better word.

TheFantasticZ responds:

Yeah, my later songs have better EQ and mono balances, this piece is more of a next step for me.
