nguac2018 knockout round submission; all sounds i used are from FLmobile, except i've added filters etc. used directwave and (mainly) gms to get the sounds i thought fitted best with what i was going for. in other words, i have not used, to my knowledge, any external plugins of sorts (and i'm not sure if FLmobile even supports them in the first place lol). no pre-made loops were used.

i had a lot of fun making this, tried a style somewhat new to me but it seems to have turned out okay in the end so we'll see how it goes. went for a semi-ambient/trance sort of thing but i'm not actually sure what genre it fits into. apart from that i don't actually have much else to say.

best of luck to the other competitors.

So I like this one you have a unique sound comming out and you make it work I like the piano in this it really makes it feel stronger and deeper in tone my only issue is that there was really no mixture of twists and turns or some nice build up of variety to it but there is a good vibe and that's what I really enjoyed here on this piece it is solid work and would love to hear much more sometime

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
Some more mixture and depth with some added variety maybe even some build up points

~X~

Catchy beats at the beginning. Synths sound a little generic and unpolished, though. Also, the texture is quite minimal for most of the piece. Nice job with the transposition at the 1-minute mark or so. I didn’t really see the breakdown at 1:19 coming, though. Felt a bit forced, and you could’ve done a lot more to foreshadow its appearance (automations, phrasing, etc.). Despite the crisp drums and good balance in the texture, the mix is very, very quiet. Compression and volume level adjustments are really tools you should look into using more. The progression of the piece isn’t bad, but also doesn’t feel like it’s leading anywhere. You maintain the somewhat grim chord progression of the breakdown for the rest of the piece without ever really tying it together with what I’m predisposed to believe is the main theme of the piece (during the first minute). Overall, the composition needs a lot more fleshing out here. More harmonies, textural fill, and high-pitched frequencies in general. Also couldn’t hurt to vary the beat at some point. That said, it’s a catchy piece with a distinctly eerie mood and some admirable rhythmic work. Keep at it, d347rat!

Solid intro. A bit quiet, but dynamics are great. Level-wise, I'd like to hear snare come up a bit.

Track is quiet as a mouse, sitting about where it probably should for mastering, maybe even a bit below. It just seems as if mastering has not been applied, or maybe the mastering channel has even been turned down.

2:31, sounds like a double layered kick or one just a bit too high to support the rest of the track. Leads are also a little quiet, and chords could benefit from some inversions -- but for genres like this, it's almost a convention to keep your keys chunky.

Still, enjoying your progression. It's unique but functional. 2:11 is a great B section.

Overall, minimalistic presentation. Biggest weakness, volume. Thanks for coming out to NGUAC!

I do really like this track and you definitely nailed the ambient trance feel, but I wish that some of the parts were less straight and were a little fuller, the melody is perfect, just enough repition, but I would try to add a few more instruments to make the track a little more substantial and filling, instead of almost making the track sound like background music, great track, with good effects nonetheless

***** timing superb, phrases of track link together beautifully end section is a nice piece of programming - solid piece of work *****
