Hello guys! It's me Poosac. I am glad that I can finally release this song to the public. This track has been untouched on my hard drive for a long time so the last couple of weeks I've been working on this song. I hope you guys like the final result! I am very happy to share this track with you, I think that it is definitely one of my best tracks yet. I think that this is the second time I tried to do a chiptune track. Most of my inspiration comes from Meganeko, He's awesome and I hope he hears this track at some point. ENJOY!

Very Cool!
Kicks off to an awesome start right away! For me, its reminiscent of some of the boss battle music from Castle Crashers, as well as Pokemon, and even some MegaMan mixed in there as well.

The mix is pretty good! There are many voices (instruments) playing at any given time and it is always a challenge to make them shine through the sonic spectrum where their sweet spots are. I am having a little trouble making out things in the mid-range between the bass and the lead melody, though. Also, I would recommend boosting the overall volume of the quiet section at 3:05. I have found that listening to my tracks with some white noise in the room (i.e. a fan or an a/c unit) helps me discover when my track has too drastic of a volume change. We don't want our listener's to think our song faded out when its not over yet!

In terms of composition, (and maybe this is about the mix, too) the melody that plays during the first section tends to get drowned out. I think its an awesome melody that drives that section perfectly with the rhythms that you have going on. My advice is to boost that baby! I wanna hear that melody like a vocal for a pop song, I want that stuff ringing back and forth in my head when I'm trying to sleep at night! Hahaha! Seriously, though, boosting that melody would really help to keep me humming that tune when I leave my computer. If it feels to repetitive, you could try an octave jump to keep the sound fresh while still pumping out that melody.

Overall, I think its awesome! It certainly sounds better than anything I have ever done, so take my advice with a grain of salt! :P

I'm interested to know what software you used, sound sets, synths, plugins, etc.

Poosac responds:

I used fl studio and I made all of my presets in Massive except for the main motive thingy and for the last melody, for those 2 I used the plugin Sakura and for sounds ... I really dunno I have libraries full of different sounds.

thanks for your awesome review ~3~

That's a spicy a meatball! Seriously though, nice job on making this track fire. Look forward to hearing more of your works.

Nice stuff! I enjoy your developments and continuations throughout the song. Maybe a taaad too repetitive and dragged out at times (imo ofc) but otherwise a solidly composed track.

Production side can use a little bit of work. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad or anything, but just a little rough around the edges. Sometimes it's hard to pick the individual synths with my ear because they are mushing together especially at busy/low-centered parts like 00:45-00:55. The volume/compressing/mixing thing-a-ma-jigs with the different parts (most notably the arpeggio bass and the high-pitched synth that later becomes the lead) could use some refinement, as in their current form they aren't balanced the best with each other.

One last important thing, always remember to use panning! Having everything in the center is harder on the ear and less interesting-sounding, get creative and do some stereo enhancement and/or panning to left/right with your different parts. Remember that panning doesn't have to mean all the way to the left or right, just do it enough so that everything is crowding into the center (unless the situation dictates otherwise ofc).

Choice of sounds for the style I believe you're going for is spot on, and so are the rhythms and chord structure.

Overall again, I like your work! As a fellow aspiring composer/producer guy I want to be fair and constructive but challenging, and I hope my suggestions can maybe help you grow as am artist. (Also, just so you know I'm most definitely the nitpicky type with music I listen to, so I'm probably more critical than most listening, haha.) Please keep up what you're doing, you got potential!

Poosac responds:

Forgot to thank you for the detailed review! I will keep all these tips in mind while working on future tracks!
